New In This Release

This release updates VLC Media Player to 0.8.6i (release notes - scroll down). The launcher now handles INI options better and the installer better calculates free space. Non-English languages are now optional, taking install size down to under 10MB.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

VLC Media Player Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

This blurb in the VLC README makes my day:

This version of VLC contains a new interface for Windows and Linux. This interface has a fullscreen controller.

FINALLY! Biggrin

EDIT: To enable the fullscreen controller, do the following:

Settings -> Preferences -> Interface -> Check "Show interface with mouse"

The "Fullscreen Controller" isn't exactly what I had envisioned. When you move you mouse to the top of the screen during a fullscreen video, a mini version of the whole VLC interface pops up. I thought one would appear as a "bar" along the edge somewhere. Anyways, re-size the interface to just show the controls and stick it in a corner of the screen somewhere then click back on the movie to make the controls go away. Next time you move the mouse to the top of the screen, the smaller interface will appear. This resets every time you run the program (changes you made to the fullscreen controller aren't saved by VLC it looks like).
