OMG!
Wow, there have been rumors about the so called "gbrowser" for years now. I haven't been on the net in a while, and the first thing I see on PC World's homepage is this. Cool.
I wonder how this one will stack up against firefox and the likes...
EDIT: It's out:

How long are we going to wait

How long are we going to wait for adblock for it? Sb. has to remove these nasty google ads. Biggrin

ad block

we dont even know if that is possible the only reason ABP is possible with FF is cause it was built to be extensible so ABP can change the page before firefox even parses the code

LOL

ABP only blocks flash animations and pictures.

it also blocks ads.....hence

it also blocks ads.....hence the name Ad Block...

If you install ABP to your firefox profile, look over at the "Sponsored Links" section on the left hand side of this site, and it'll be empty....disable ABP, restart firefox, come back to the page, and the ads will be there then.

Links aren't animated gifs,

Links aren't; animated gifs, flash etc. are, as long as they fit a blocking rule.
You can add them to the list by rclick->adblock image.

That's where they make a lot of their revenue.

Since Google makes so much of their revenue on ads, they probably don't want Adblock. If this was IE, they would ban such an extention. Yay for open source.

Just looked at

Just looked at Lifehacker.com....they posted an article about a german blogger that made Chrome portable. That article included this statement

"This is a very early solution, and we'll be keeping our eyes out for a more streamlined version from the folks at PortableApps[.com]"

Fail.

Google Chrome is an absolute failure. Just read this: http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2008/09/01/it-s-rea...

Explains a lot. It's so stupid. A Google browser??? Meh, just try out the Firefox 3.1 alpha. So much faster than Chrome.

OK...

Chrome is a nice browser. That's all, "nice", nothing more. I use it, but not as a default browser.
I can't see it becoming a big deal yet, for Google hasn't introduced anything like Firefox Extensions that actually change the market. I agree, Google did pull a M$ "Mee Too!"; creating software just to link with other services. For all the hype and rumor towards the release of a "Google Browser", I would have expected something a bit more feature - rich.
Maybe Google will fix that in upcoming releases - keep in mind, Chrome is a beta - but for now I'm sticking with Firefox.
That's my 2 cents on the matter... Smile

I am interrested

but I think its a little early.
The newspaper article we had here about it wasn't even telling me that it was only beta and thus not suitable for every-day use by everybody. And the german federal office for security in information technology warned today that it shouldnt be used by everybody and they find it "convenient but critical" due to Google collecting to much user data.

I think they are right and Google released it too early. Think about it: do you know of any programm which was only beta quality and released with such a big media hype around it?

its a keylogger

since apparently, all you type into the address lien is transmitted to google even if you do not hit enter. any keystroke you do in this single type in box is transmitted with some fixed number (number of the installtion or what) to the google, with the IP address I assume.

Is this a hype? For whom?

I understand that, but why

I understand that, but why worry about it? I don't use it for secure things (actually I don't use it at all, I use Chromium), I just use it for regular browsing like reading news, etc. Unless you're doing something illegal with it who cares? Google only uses your info so they can lay more ads on you.

That makes sense, really.

That makes sense, really. That's how the search-as-you-type works. Same thing happens on google's search webpage.

I understand

them. After all its still beta... and highly questionable from the security point of view.
