I have set up thuderbird portable on a U3 usb flash drive and have sucessfully set up an account based on a new mailbox with my ISP. This works sucessfully on more than one computer.

Boot to U3 CDFS partition?

Submitted by MrChris on November 25, 2006 - 4:08am

Question 1.)
Would it be posible to boot to a U3's CDFS partition on a PC that supports booting to USB Flash Drive or USB Hard Drives?

Question 2.)
Has anyone been able to make a U3 CDFS partition bigger than the default 6MB or so. Say like 700MB or maybe bigger?

Many thanks,

MrChris

suggestion: home page link to U3/PortableApps compare and contrast

Submitted by r.gayler on November 22, 2006 - 5:12am

I was only aware of PortableApps, until I bought a new SanDisk USB Flash Drive and found that it came pre-loaded with U3. Then I was a bit confused because it seemed to be covering much the same territory as PortableApps. (Should I use one or the other or both?)

I think it would be really useful to have a link from the PortableApps home page to a page that compares and contrasts U3 andPortableApps.

Avast! Anti-Virus and/or FireFox don't seem compatible on USB

Submitted by LynnL on November 21, 2006 - 1:33pm

This topic was "bookmarks" ... but I feel it important to make more visible for users of U3 and Avast! to see. The issue is FireFox under U3 starts leaving behind tons of old temporary bookmark files like these (notice time created):

Portable X U3

Submitted by mvsa on November 20, 2006 - 5:09pm

Hello John!

Plz, I have an USB flash drive w/ U3.

What's the difference between FF 2.0 portable an FF 2.0 for U3?

Only the shortcut added on launchpad? Or something else?

Tks and your apps are NICE!!

Why keep the package?

Submitted by Die Bruine on November 17, 2006 - 8:34am

Why does the install package remain on the U3 device? I would like to use U3 OpenOffice. But it's kinda annoying when after install the drive's down a 230MB capacity. This could easily be reduced to 160MB just by deleting the 70MB install package. Yes I have tried deleting it. Deleting the package renders the application unusable... Very annoying indeed. I think I'll just try the Portable Package instead, and try to make an icon with the software I just found here. Would be nice though if you could make it so that the U3 version deleted the install package itself without the need for it afterw

Firefox 1.5.0.70 U3 fails to run on Sandisk USBkey

Submitted by mike79 on November 16, 2006 - 7:49pm

Hello

I have a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4Gb U3 Edition

Each time I try to run Firefox or thunderbird it fails. (no specific reason)

It just says:

"U3 Launchpad

An Error has occured while trying to start the selected program."

Seems to be the launchpad, but all other applications just works fine.

I've the last version of the launchpad sandisk edition.

Regards,

M.
