The LaunchPad for Sandisk U3 has UpDated to version:
1,2,0,9

Major Difference:

The major difference in this update is that even if you choose the Autostart of the LaunchPad when you update you can still TURN IT OFF from the LaunchPad itself without Reintstalling the LaunchPad it self.

Rather than boor you with the details and other changes here is a link to the thread in the U3 Community Forum

Firefox doesn't write to the USB drive

Submitted by skooks777 on October 23, 2006 - 6:53pm

(This thread has been adapted from a previously unanswered thread. This one is clearer and more concise. The other has been deleted.)

I'm having a few problems with my U3 GeekSquad 1GB thumb drive:

1) I cannot get the Launcher to run on any public lab computers at my school (although it does show up in the task manager's process list). This is not a crisis, since I can still access everything through explorer, but it is an inconvenience.

2) Firefox seems to be writing its application data onto the C drive of the lab computers I'm working on. Any extensions I install or custom settings I make are written to that application data folder on the hard disk, not the USB drive.

Mail Accounts Disappeared

Submitted by nycfonephreak on October 16, 2006 - 9:08pm

I was referred here by the Thunderbird support forum. I am using Thunderbird for U3 on a U3 drive and TB suddenly lost track of my account info (prompting me to set up a new account upon startup). None of the solutions I've seen here and at the main TB support forum seemed appropriate on the U3 drive (i.e. could not find ini files or other files or folders referenced in solutions or preventive measures).

I finally fixed my problem by recreating each of the 7 mail accounts that I monitor, then using mailbox import to import the SENT, INBOX and DRAFTS mailboxes from my original accounts. So, I'm a happy camper again.

Do normal flash drives not autoplay then?

Submitted by rich.bradshaw on October 13, 2006 - 6:16am

I have a u3 drive - (£15.99 Sandisk Cruzer 1Gb, not bad!) and am impressed by the u3 launcher etc, but wondered if it is really true that normal flash disks don't auto play - I am sure that they normally try to auto play - if you put an autoplay.inf file on them doesn't it open it? Essentially what is the point of having a special u3 drive if you could replicate this functionality on a normal disk?

Secondarily, what is a good replacement for the u3 launcher? I had a quick look at pstart, but its not that amazing looking etc... are there any other options?

Difficulty installing Flash & Shockwave in FF & TB

Submitted by Miles on October 13, 2006 - 2:45am

Have U3 FF installed. but am unable to install FlashPlayer and Shockwave.

Downloaded Macromedia flashplayer & when attempt to install onto U3 flash drive receive msg, "http://ffdownload.macromedia.com/flashplayer/xpi/current/flashplayer~1.xpi
because download error.

Also Shockwave won't install. Have downloaded file shockwave_installer_slim.exe. When attempt to install window reads Windows can't find i\system\apps\3c9f7b~1\exec\firefox\firefox.exe 3c9f7bf-d55c. Is this attempting to install a file meant for PortableApps, not U3? And if so, where is the one for U3 found?

This is same difficulty as two days ago and thought it might be their website, but apparently not.

Profile not seen

Submitted by Miles on October 8, 2006 - 11:28pm

Installed FFP 1.5.0.7 onto SanDisk flash drive with U3 directly onto the drive, not under the folder apps. Then copied the FF 1.5.0.7 profile from the computer's hard drive starting with xxxx.default and dropped it into "profile" on the flash drive.

Settings, bookmarks, etc., are not seen -- just the basic program. Also could not shut down the thumb drive as the program was running, so deleted FF, and then it shut down.

Could this be due to:

1) The profile used is on D:\, not C:\docs&settings\etc\Mozilla where the registry.dat, pluginreg.dat, and profiles.ini are located.

2) The entire folder xxxxx.default was dropped into the profile folder, then the cache directory was deleted, then FF started & other instructions carried out as set forth on the website. Could it relate to the xxxx.default being there as opposed to simply the files and folders below it?

My U3 drives screwed up!!

Submitted by rickjs on October 4, 2006 - 9:50pm

I have this baby here:

http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item...lack__New.aspx

And I just inserted it into my computer, and it won't autorun. So I went into my computer and the storage part of the U3 drive isnt being read there at all. I didn't do anything. The U3 partition is still there, just not behaving correctly. Whats up? Is there a way to reset it?

Can anyone help me?
