I've been using the autorun.vbs script that starts PStart and, when PStart exits, it uses unmount and deveject utilities to close and eject the drive. It's been working well.
Occasionally, because I accidentally exit PStart or other reasons, the script finishes and the drive is ejected when I don't want it to. I know that I could just unplug and replug the drive to renable it. But I was wondering if there is a way to programmatically force XP to remount the drive. I could, hopefully, have a small utility on my desktop and, if necessary, run it to remount the drive. Anyone heard of anything
I frequently check the chatbox john is testing, and nobody is ever on it. i think this could be very useful and people should give it a chance. try it out.
How does one test the speed of USB drives? Is there a free test utility out there.
There have been a number of threads here where someone is complaining about speed (or lack thereof).
It could also be useful when buying a new drive- buy it, test it, if too slow return it.
It would be nice to have a single standard test that we could use. Results could even be added to a summary chart here.
Could we have an Easter theme on the site?
A week or 2 ago I read somewhere (not sure if it was here or elsewhere) that when scheduling tasks in XP that you could specify some sort of generic, trusted administrator user ID (and no password) instead of your normal logon/password. I didn't make a note of it and now would like to do this. I assume you would have to be an administrator to do this.
Does anyone remember this and/or know what I'm talking about here?
Heys guys, I've been doing some musing and I need some opinions. Me da is looking for a new compy to manage the multimedia circus at church, because the old one is about to die. Now, XP has been ...adequate..., but he may be looking for something just a bit more. Anyone have advice on one of the Windows Media Edition PCs? Is the DRM really bad? I still need to query him about specific needs, but rudimentry needs are an ability to play and copy audio/visual DVDs without interference (damn you Microsoft!).
(Don't you just love it when parents give you projects?
)
Thanks guys!

How long do you use your USB Stick a day.
What are you do with your USB Stick primary?
How many USB Sticks had you killed and how?
My daughter recently(without consulting her geek dad), bought an iPod.
Of course when it came time to install iTunes we found out the iTunes only works for Win2000 or XP and we have 98 on her computer.
I am not ready to fork out the $99 for XP upgrade and more memory that the computer will want to run XP and I may get her a laptop in the next year for school.
Is there any way, portable or not, to run iTunes on a Win98SE.
Is it possible with a Mac Emulator of some sort?
I have heard about Mac on a stick, but is that new enough version of Mac to work?
I know about Winamp and Yamipod, but those don't let her get into the iTunes store and buy music.
Since JTH hasn't set up a directory of blogs yet -- let alone a "latest posts" page -- I'm going to create a page (probably on http://nm35.portasoft.org/blogs.php) that has a list of all the PortableApps.com blogs, along with latest posts in each.
Please post below if you want me to add your blog to the list, and tell me if you have any ideas!
