encrypt decrypt

Submitted by ardnascela on June 4, 2011 - 1:42pm

hello there, I need some help.
I tried to encrypt a folder in my drive and after a while I cancelled it. now I can't watch any movie, I can't see any picture and neither the music plays. what have I done? the files are still there, but I can't use them. all the other files work, from other folders, except from this one, which I tried to encrypt.
can anybody help me please? can I recover the files, I mean, make them work? and can I do it myself?

How are these forums indented

I find it really interesting to see the way you have structured this forum, and I would like to know if you used a certain cms or forum package to build your website. I am mainly interested in this because I have been setting up a website and I love this kind of structure. I would love to know how it was done.
BTW I LOVE using the portable apps off of this website, they have saved me SO many times in the past that I basically can't count them any more, thanks to everyone who has put SO MUCH EFFORT into this website and all of it's apps.

JTH's "MAFIAA" joke takes on new life, catches fire from DHS

Yep, DHS = Department of Homeland Security. When I saw MAFIAA pop up on Slashdot, and then Ars Technica, it reminded me of JTH's old April Fool's Day joke. Well, somebody took his joke and made it into a Firefox extension. "MAFIAA Fire" that redirects users to the new hosts of piracy sites taken down by ICE. Now DHS, on RIAA/MPAA payroll, wants Mozilla to take it down from AMO. Mozilla told 'em to take a flying leap, and it looks like they're backing down.

chkdsk keeps being set on removable HDD

Submitted by wolf99 on May 2, 2011 - 4:42pm

Hi folks

I have a 460Gb removable HDD with 2 partitions, one FAT and one NTFS
Recently the one of the two (or maybe both) of the windows XP machines I use keeps scheduling chkdsk to be run on the drive...
I can do this be releasing handles and running chkdsk in cmd prompt.
easy enough on a windows machine, but when I go to use on a ubuntu machine, the OS wont ewven mount the disk because it detects the windows chkdsk is pending, so no mounty - no fixey...

Does anyone know if this issue can be circumvented on a ubuntu machine or whats causing the chkdsk to keep being scheduled on it?

Firefox 4 GUI - not too bad, actually

From a design standpoint, the new GUI is done really well. It's just the poor choice of defaults and the removal of certain features that make me wonder what's going on (and then there's the font rendering BS that I'm trying to forget). In any case, with a few extensions to bring back the removed features and some creativity, you too can have a very customized browser window.

note: the location bar is opaque in the screenshot for some reason, but it is in fact semi-transparent, so I can see Foxkeh.

thunderbird in wine ubuntu

Submitted by ottosykora on April 26, 2011 - 7:03am

Since some recent updates of ubuntu 10.10 , the thunderbird portable refuses to run properly in wine. It used to work fine, but now it says that it can not run on read only media and copies the TB to hard drive first.
Installed is TB on usb flash stick, so there should be no problem with writing and when I try to find about rights, it tells me the rights are unknown which is of course the problem.

Did someone observe the same?

[Done] I need an expert on Microsoft

I got an expert now, so this post is kinda pointless...

I'm writing a paper on the cultural significance of Microsoft for my AP English Language class, and I need an interview of an expert. It'll most likely be through email, though.

Interviews must be conducted with someone who has expert knowledge or experience with Microsoft. Professionals, scholars, artists—really anyone in the public sphere is potentially an appropriate interview subject.

So if you can help, contact me at [username] [at] gmx [dot] us.
