Portable App Development

Hi all,

We've released a new major version of our application - DB Browser for SQLite - which with the latest point release (3.11.2) should be suitable for PortableApps packaging.

Previously, when it needed packaging we've just pinged John directly via email, and within a day or two the PortableApp version would be ready.

This time though, email and Twitter contact isn't generating any response.

The current platform has host many outdated applications.. Is this of sole user-submitted/managed PApps's [app]'s responsability to update these, or does PApps.com's moderator have a say in which version should be reported as current or not?

I would suggest the PortableApps Update engine to provide an additional version detection+notification module. One that would check versions of installed apps against both the PApps.com plateform's version, AND that of the apps's original publisher-released version.

This is my first contact with the site and, if possible, I would suggest some possibilities of future changes in the P.A.

1-In the next versions, it would be possible to put a program, embedded in the app itself, which would allow to select part of an image and use it as Wallpaper in the rectangle where the apps are shown. For example, the App is set to red color and an Iron Man image.

2-Allow The user to create more folders along with the originals. Example: Jobs, emails, and other folders that would meet the user's need.

Is it just me, or shouldn't the Documents folder (when portableapps is installed) be named Home and the Documents folder should be placed in the same folder as Music / Pictures / Videos ?

I use PortableApps every day and this has always been an annoyance to me.

Maybe this could be a feature change request ?

Just wondering, we've 3 apps (USBtoCloud DriveSecurity EncryptUSB) waiting for Official release in "Apps Ready For Official Release" forum after been tested in Beta Testing forum.

Please advise how to deploy those apps into the Release.

I have been using PortableApps for many years. Often it happens when I unzip a new one and I click on "finish", it does not automatically immediately start whereas it should, as I made sure the little thingie was checked.

This is a rather common phenomenon, so I guess not too many people feel disturbed enough by it to get it sorted out. In the end it isn't really important indeed. Just wanted to bring it to someone's notice, if it can be corrected, all the better.

Can anyone help me to combine the following two custom.nsh files. Separately Both codes work fine for me for registering dll, ocx, and font support . As I don't understand how to code custom.nsh , I can not combine both codes to support font and dll or ocx file together. Can anyone combine it in One custom.nsh file for me please.

Hi, I am trying to make a portable app in portableapps.com format. But The app is not starting. It's only showing splash image but nothing. The app which I am trying to make portable is freeware, open source and already portable . Plz someone help me to make it portable in portableapps format.

I want to run several games off of my thumbdrive at school.
Unfortunately, most of them are copyright, so if someone were to upload a portable version, it would be piracy.
However, I know the directories they use.
I want to use a batch script to make them use a different directory, one stored on my jump drive, then turn THAT into an EXE so that the platform will detect it. I remember it being possible. Please help.

Hi, is there a guide or tutorial on how to create a portable app? I see other people doing it, but I don't really know what's involved. What makes a good candidate for portable installation? How do you create a portable installation? I want to learn!
