it would be nice if there would either be a change-log or a section right at the end of the post above where you could see the changes.
In other words: is there any reason to install this (like better Launcher, Vista-Support, ...)if I have already auto-updated my TB?

In a word ... No. If you use the auto update feature built into Thunderbird it should automatically update to the latest version. The exception to this is Beta versions/ Release candidates such as the Beta version of Thunderbird 2.0 which is available at the moment. For those not used to Thunderbird it is worth pointing out that a newer version does not necessarilly mean more functionality but is often a case of security fixes. Mozilla don't release patches but only updates.

Sourceforge is missing the files
(Same with TB2Beta2)

I autoupdated by "Check for updates" thru 1.5.0.8 so I should be fine right?

you are.
With FF and TB you can always go with the built-in update feature.
Only when John makes a new version of the launcher you should grab a copy from here so you get the new launcher.

When John releases a new version of a launcher, he says so in the post.
