Every year, SourceForge.net hosts a Community Choice Awards where open source projects like ours are nominated and then voted on in different categories like "Most Likely to Change the World", "Best Project" and "Most Likely to Be the Next $1B Acquisition". PortableApps.com, as one of the largest open source projects on SourceForge.net, should have a shot this year. We're asking for your help in getting nominated. The PortableApps.com Team works very hard to bring portable open source software to the world and it never hurts to get some recognition and help expose our platform to more people.

So, if you're a fan and you think we're a good fit, please head on over to SourceForge.net and nominate us!

I'm working on it Blum

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I nominated back on may 2nd and I sent an email to our local lug asking people to add to it. I chose " Best Open Source Enabler" as the category because this was the project that allowed me to almost completely switch to free software.

I'll make sure to nominate. PortableApps rox my sox! It literally changed the way I used the computer! I can now use any compy like it's my own. I hope u guys get nominated! My vote's on "Most Likely to Change the World".

"Most Likely to Get Users Sued" cracked me up. Biggrin It's good to know a big operation like SF has retained their sense of humor!

I just nominated PortableApps.com for "Most Likely to Change the World" because, well, it already has! Portable Firefox was the first (well-known) portable app, and now look! Now we have U3, Ceedo, MS's upcoming StartKey... not to mention a bunch of portable menus, like PStart and ASuite...

So yeah. Smile

Oh yeah. What the heck happened to the graphical smilies?

during the drupal upgrade.

It makes you feel so free to be able to take with you your apps and documents, to have them organized in this specific way. This is a gift! Simple and stable, easy to use, it has everything - and apparently is programmed with care and exactitude. Good work. Congratulations.

I think projects of PortableApps.com is already making difference, it has helped to eliminate the gap between Linux and Windows. I have a Linux box that has (I have installed most) the same apps I have with me in my USB. So there is no format problem for me. I use OO in a Linux box to create a document, whenever I am using Window i use the OO in my USB to open, edit, export or what ever I want to do with the document without a compatible issue. That will give some oh oh to some proprietory software makers.

Not only they add so many applications everyday, it is so pleasing they are very much user friendly in design.

Clean Compact Complete Convenient Applications.

No Crazy No Cumbersome No Clumsy.

All this at No Cost - this is unbelievable.

I used many of the apps themselves but it was portableapps that allowed me to truly break free and use them. Before portable apps I used firefox somewhat and tried to use OO and thunderbird. It was not until I was able to set them up and keep a consistent interface with them through portable apps that I was able to truly embrace the apps themselves. For all practical purposes portable apps is my os.

It's just a menu!

It's the APPS themselves that have changed my life Smile
FFP, TBP, and CWP specifically.

[edit: but see reply below Wink ]

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

Have y'all not noticed that group_id=151265 at sourceforge.net actually refers to the portableapps project (PortableApps.com: Portable Software/USB)?

It's not the menu — it's the entire project (i.e., all portable app releases).

I'm Not disagreeing with you.

I read the above, as a result of the first reply, as referring to the menu/suite/platform as PortableApps, which of course they should have not Wink

I should have said, If you are referring to the PAM/PAS/PAP I would have to agree, It's just a menu!

This is no reflection on the vote Smile

I assumed the first post was refering that the vote should go to the original software ie - firefox rather than firefox portable or the portable apps menu. It is the way protable apps allows me to use these great apps rather than not use them that I like so much.

If I had it my way the applications would be 10x less all the folders/files, the folder structure would be much simpler for example App > Firefox, Data > Profiles, Other > Source. thats 3 main folders and 3 Subfolders.. anyways the apps saves a lot of time from installing/ and making a portable version ourselves.

i will definity nominate you guys...no doubt about it...thanks to portableapps i have a use for my thumbdrive rather than it just sitting there and do nothing..

boo ? boo hoo...boo hoo i killed your parents and tortured you lol.. Kim Jong Il from Mad Tv ..

Nominated PortableApps.com as the BEST PROJECT. It's the least i can do to "say thank-you" and show my support to PortableApps.com and its prime movers.

i have a lot of different RSS feeds from google reader, and I have subscribed to a few different websites that offer portable applications and I by FAAAAAARRRRRRRRR like portable apps better. The interface to choose the application is one click. And you don't have to choose my computer and locate different portable apps like portable ccleaner and etc. Its right there in a pop up box, all your applications one click away. Portable Apps, PLEASE include ccleaner in your applications. PLEASE

My vote goes to "Most Likely to Change the World"

I really appreciate the ease of use brought by PortableApps. I use different sets of apps on several removable media to suit their specific purpose... and a full set on my hard disk to replace previous versions of the applications.
I like apps to write only in known places on my disks !

Shall I suggest a couple of ideas to make it even better ?
- How about an update function to check and offer to update the apps held on the device ?
- How about setting-up several sets of apps (as done on the web site) for those who carry many apps (and including portable network optimization tools) ?

Thanks for this great project...

OL

When I buy a new system, Poratble apps will be going on it and most of the rest will be coming off. I can't see wating all the resources on stuff I won't use! Portable apps seems to be the perfect selections for the home user.

As tempting as it was to simply nominate PortableApps for "Best Project", I felt that this category does not do the project justice. Since it is an entire platform, rather than an individual program, I chose "Most Likely To Change The World" as it feels more befitting. Its description, "...a project that can change society for the better" more encompasses the power and flexibility of this project as a whole. I primarily use PortableApps programs directly from hard disk, and have most of them installed on every computer I own. I also recommend and convert people to them many times in a typical week. It's amazing how people react in awe when they have "Open Source" software explained to them!

>REALITY ERROR: UNIVERSE HALTED

Just nominated "Most likely to change the world" cause it actually changed mine, I no longer have to worry about syncing mail, bookmarks or anything, it's all in my USB and backed up in my HD.
I really hope you win!.

what this..kok g isa di DOWNLOAD..?

I have no idea what you are asking.
Could you clarify?

If you are asking What is the point of this topic?
It is to encourage people, who have a sourceforge account [the host of our apps], to vote for this project, PortableApps.com, as something noteworthy, valuable, or worthy of praise.

While it's hard to think of one project that deserves an award, the Portable apps combines so many things, and has allowed so many of us to take our programs with us, that it's had a very large, yet mostly silent, effect on computing.

Largely unnoticed by the media, a growing number silently carry around apps on their USB keys. I'm always pleased at checking the portable apps site for the latest versions!

Great job!

Voted it as the "Most Likely to Change the World".

This project was the sole reason why I bought a USB Flash Drive and I don't have any regrets.

Keep up the good work guys!
