For the interested, an update was just posted and pushed to the Google Chrome Dev Portable channel as well adding in support for the new-style Java plugin.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I'd updated to this Chrome 18 beta release but not run it yet. Today, I fired up my local, non-PAc install of Chrome & got a message that an admin had installed a system-wide copy of Chrome, which would now replace my copy...WTF? The only option was "OK" so I tried just closing out the dialog box to bail. No such luck! The next thing I saw was a Setup.exe in Process Explorer but nothing on-screen. Soon afterward ChromePortable fired up. Somewhere in there my non-PAc desktop icon got deleted. (No desktop icon for Chrome Portable exists now or previously.)

Evidently this latest update has decided that it should replace the normal Chrome beta install on my system! I have my PAc stuff on my local drive in its own C:\PAc directory & have never had any problems with it before. I always make a point to use the updater or the menu installer to add new apps. I don't think I did anything wrong or different than I normally do. What happened & what's the best way to fix it?

It didn't actually remove my normally installed copy of Chrome from C:\Program Files; it only removed the icon from my desktop. Still, this was bad behavior from a Portable App! Let me know if there's something I can do to help troubleshoot it.

I'm not quite sure where to post this - or even if it's specific to the PA.c version of the beta rather than the generic version - but there seems to be a problem when I log into my Facebook account and try to view the adverts page (we advertise on Facebook). I've tested this with the release version and all is WAD. Also tested with the latest dev version and that has the same problem.

Basically, when I log into Facebook and click the "Adverts" link on the left, the page comes up but then I get a huge amount of hard disk activity on the machine (PA.c is running from a USB stick) and the unresponsive page box comes up. If I click on "Wait" the process continues until the box comes up again. The only solution is to kill the page or close Google Chrome.

As well as trying this with the various Google Chrome builds, I've also tested it with Firefox and SeaMonkey and the page loads and works fine with both.

Sorry it all sounds a bit vague - perhaps someone else can reproduce it.

Regards

Nick

I have the same problem with latest portable chrome 18 beta
But I just serf in Internet, read blog and it hang on, become irresponsive and i have to close all my browser instanse with all pages. Also today I discover a problem with embedded youtube video - flash player is stopping and all browser is stopping too make me closing all browsers instances.

The problems you're having with flash may be a separate issue. I read somewhere that the beta versions now use their own Pepperflash by default and that problems can occur if, after an upgrade, you have two different flash plugins (Pepperflash and Shockwave) enabled at the same time. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I've now removed the beta version and gone back to the stable one.

The first step is to browse to chrome://plugins/ to see what's installed and enabled.
