logoSuperTuxKart Portable 0.9 has been released. SuperTuxKart is a Free 3d kart racing game. It's more about being fun than being realistic. You can play with up to 4 friends on one PC, racing against each other or just try to beat the computer. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Platform. And it's open source and completely free.

Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the PortableApps.com Platform.

Features

ScreenshotSee the great lighthouse or drive through the sand and visit the pyramids. Race under water or in space, watching the stars passing by. Have some rest under the palms on the beach (watching the other karts overtaking you :) ). But don't fall into the volcano. You can do a single race against other karts, compete in one of several Grand Prix, or try to beat the high score in time trials on your own.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

SuperTuxKart Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Platform including the Menu and Backup Utility.

SuperTuxCart now does separate releases for discontinued Windows XP vs Windows Vista and up. I have elected to package the Vista and up version only from here forward. The additional space to package both versions of this large app (over 500MB) plus maintain a custom launcher to handle moving files for XP vs Vista+ appear to outweigh the benefit of this new release running on the few Windows XP machines powerful enough to run it. The vast majority of outdated hardware running Windows XP can't run this app well. If someone is interested in taking over maintenance and doing all the work to maintain a custom launcher supporting both OSes, please feel free.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
