A new version of Litecoin Core Portable has been released. It's a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency complimentary to Bitcoin. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Platform. And it's open source and completely free.

Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the PortableApps.com Platform.

Features

ScreenshotLitecoin is a peer-to-peer Internet currency that enables instant, near-zero cost payments to anyone in the world. Litecoin is an open source, global payment network that is fully decentralized without any central authorities. Mathematics secures the network and empowers individuals to control their own finances. Litecoin features faster transaction confirmation times and improved storage efficiency than the leading math-based currency. With substantial industry support, trade volume and liquidity, Litecoin is a proven medium of commerce complementary to Bitcoin.

Litecoin Blockchain Download - As part of the first run of Litecoin Core Portable, you'll be asked if you'd like to run a pruned node. This will use about 4.5GB of space on your device instead of the 55GB+ required when running a full node. You'll also be given the opportunity to download the current Litecoin blockchain from blockchains.download, a service we run, allowing you to get started with Litecoin even faster. The blockchain can also be downloaded for use with local Litecoin installs.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Litecoin Core Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Platform including the Menu and Backup Utility.

This revision works around a Litecoin bug when operating with pruned blockchains by updating the conf file when needed.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Litecoin Core v0.21.3 Rev2 does not work.

You need to rebuild the database using -reindex to go back to unpruned mode.
This will redownload the entire blockchain.
Do you want to rebuild the block database now?
OK

Litecoin Core - Error
Error: Error opening block database
OK

The window and application close.

Please close Litecoin, open up the LitecoinPortable\Data\Litecoin directory. Open the litecoin.conf file. And tell me what prune is set to.

This updated revision better handles updating the litecoin.conf to work around a Litecoin bug when using pruned blockchains.

If you upgraded to Rev 2 and got an error about needing to switch back to the full blockchain, close Litecoin Portable. open your LitecoinPortable\Data\Litecoin directory. Open the litecoin.conf file. prune= is likely set to 550. Change it to 2200 and close and save it. Then launch Litecoin Portable again.

litecoin.conf

Prune=550
blockfilterindex=0
peerblockfilters=0

I changed to

Prune=2200
blockfilterindex=0
peerblockfilters=0

The result is the same. Same Error. I can't start the app.

Moreover, I was impatient. I wiped "Block" and "Chainstate", I downloaded Blockchain from https://github.com/blockchains-download/litecoin/releases/tag/2024.05.01

Also, I updated on Rev3. Without success.

If something else can be done, I will follow your instructions. If I can be helpful, no problem.

After you download that and put it into Litecoin Portable, you need to then maually edit the file to be:

prune=550
blockfilterindex=0
peerblockfilters=0

There's a bug in this version of Litecoin itself (but not previous) that isn't turning off those options when pruning.

Ok, I returned to the prune=550

Always the same Error

I guess I can bridge this problem as follows - (1) Fresh installation Litecoin Core, (2) Restore Wallet.dat

But in that case, we did not solve the upgrade from the older version to the newer version.

The current version of Litecoin Portable works with the downloaded blockchain from blockchains.download as long as your litecoin.conf file is this:

prune=550
blockfilterindex=0
peerblockfilters=0

Without those two last lines, you'll get the error you originally got. I'm guessing you had been using Litecoin Portable for a while and were on the old higher prune size. I inadvertently had Rev 2 set it down to the smaller 550 size. But Litecoin apparently can't prune a pruned blockchain smaller. Rev 3 keeps it as is.

Unfortunately, you blew away your existing blockchain details, so I'd suggest backing them up, starting fresh with the download and then adding your wallet in.

I still have a full backup from v0.21.2.2 from 15 days ago. Then everything worked normal.

Can I use that version and then upgrade it to the latest Rev3?

In the meantime, I deleted everything and installed Rev3. Fresh installation. Everything works flawlessly.

It will upgrade it without adjusting the prune size.
