Beta Testing

Hi beta testers!

I made a portable app of the great program Overhoor. At the moment it's nothing more or less than a launcher with the right name 7zipped in a paf file.

The author of the original program mailed me that he likes the idea and will allow continued development if the files installed by the original setup will not be modified.

Please tell me whether you like it or not, and if the program leaves some unwanted traces on systems it's used on.

AVE 1.1 has now been released. AVE is the AutoStart Visual Editor. It allows you to quickly and easily add, remove or reorder items in an INF file. The main update in 1.1 is the new way in which it parses INF files. This should mean that it works with all INF files rather than just those of AutoStart. You can get it here

Any comments would be welcome.

Update 2006-12-12 - I have just published AVE 1.11 which is identical to 1.1 except that it fully supports the Portable Applications Format making it easy to use with the Portable Apps Menu. If you already have 1.1 there isn't really any reason to upgrade.

Truck Dismount is a game made by Rekkaturvat and is available in non-portable version at www.jet.ro/dismount/ . It is liscenced under Creative Commons, and complies with the portable apps launch menu.

Go to the menu of Portable Apps, and select Options
Select "Install Portable App," and point it to the .paf.exe file.
To run, go to the Portable Apps folder where all the Apps' data is held, and click "truckdismountPotable" then run that portable.exe or to work from the menu, read below.

Well, now, this would be my first Portable App!

Paint.NET is an image manipulation software similar to Photoshop, but less complex, and more easy-to-understand than GIMP.(at least for me)

Paint.NET Portable is actually 1 more MB than regular Paint.NET, because I've not UPX'd it yet. This is Beta 0.5 of the portable app, and for the actual program's version beta 3.0 v1.

The download size is 6.1 MB, and the actual files are 15.9 MB I believe.

I think I got the hang of these portable apps now...
I have now finished the portable SDLBasic(http://www.sdlbasic.altervista.org/) programming Language. In about 5mb, you can have a multiplatform graphical application!

You need the PortableApps Menu 1.0.2 Beta 2 to use this, it fixes the current directory issue.

Being that it's already pretty much portable with the right settings, this is just for simplicity and PAF compatibility.

If anybody can test out the new OTR plugin and see if it works correctly, I can update the instructions and package for download. Thanks...

It would appear that beta 5 broke the old plugin, so a new version is needed. There's a new version on their website. The installer does *NOT* work with Gaim Portable. And, from the directory layouts, the OTR plugin may no longer be portable.

Copy that to your GaimPortable\App\Gaim\plugins directory in an instance of Gaim Portable 2.0 Beta 5.
