Proper usage of this awesome app

Submitted by Ben09880 on May 6, 2013 - 3:20pm

I've tried to do a few forum searches and got flustered...

I have a few questions.

1. Is it 'allowed' (not bad practice) to launch apps from within the launcher WITHOUT the launcher?

I have made shortcuts directly to my apps and use those daily. Once a week I open the launcher itself to check for updates.

2. Are all the apps on this website honestly completely portable and confined within the launcher folders?

help making a web UI for portable apps

Submitted by xbibleyosef on May 6, 2013 - 2:21pm

Hi,

I'm putting together a project to distribute bibles and Christian software on USB sticks,

I'd like to make a web based user interface, although I don't do web design, I'm looking for an easy way to make a simple collection of nice looking icons to start up apps for me.

Most of them need to be driven using batch files, ie: I have a batch file to run VLC player and open a bible in Arabic, another runs VLC with a playlist with list of Christian radios stations in Persian, etc.

Any suggestions what I can use? some kind of simple template job would be perfect.

MenuIcon

Similar to Documents, Music, Video etc, I'm trying to create/add a new folder "XYZ" to appear as with the above. I have created a ../Graphics/MenuIcons and a /Graphics/WindowsFolderIcons, could you please provide some insight as to if I'm heading in the right direction?
Thanks

Question on viewing previous comments while adding a reply / comment

Submitted by christina_a on May 2, 2013 - 2:37pm

Hope this is the right forum for questions about the forum.

On portableapps.com forum, once click reply or add comment, on a post w/ several comments, you can not read any previous comments. One might need to re read them, to make their new comment accurate or grab quotes.

I assume? this is a function of the forum software, but most forums will allow scrolling while posting, to read all previous comments. Is there any way around that on this forum, other than duplicating the tab to look at previous comments?

Mnemosyne Portable

Submitted by taltal on April 30, 2013 - 5:17pm

I'm posting this in the General Discussion forum since there is no support forum for Mnemosyne Portable. I'm sorry if as a newbie poster I'm violating any forum rule. This is my first message.

A few years ago I discovered Mnemosyne Portable (https://portableapps.com/apps/education/mnemosyne_portable) and used it ever since.

When Mnemosyne Portable was updated to version 2.1 I tried it enthusiastically, but I felt it was too buggy for me (the bugs are obviously caused by Mnemosyne itself, not the portabilization) so I kept using version 1.2.2 instead.

PAP LOG

Submitted by ZeroX4 on April 28, 2013 - 6:30pm

i wish that pap would have feature someday to sort by last updated or installed apps but i just get better idea

why not have simple text log about what actions you did last ?

that log would contain any or some actions user made with pap

like last apps used installed updated removed or track of any other activity that would be useful as information

like simple history file

would that be possible ?

I know that John has a heap of apps that he repackages personally, and while Gord has done an awesome job of picking up where John can't always get to them straight away, we may be able to help both John hand off some of that load and all the developers to know where they stand with official apps and which apps they can take over.

I think it would be worth setting up a couple of new pages (they don't need to be forum threads, they would be better off on the development page as they are specifically development related):
