Support Forums

Submitted by Jacob Mastel on March 14, 2008 - 3:17pm

Okay I know we need to support users with any problems they may face with our apps. However our list is growing and it's going to get messy to have a forum for each app. Especially since each apps forum isn't used very often and John's been cranking out the new apps like mad. So instead of having 30 different forums would it be possible to just create one App Support Forum?

I just found this trough PenDriveApps.com

Rohos Mini Drive is a FREE Portable Partition Encryption tool that can be used to create a hidden partition on a USB device that is password protected. The Software doesn’t require Administrator Privileges to open the password protected USB drive partition on a guest computer. It can be run directly from a USB device [...]

PreRelease Malware Testing

PreRelease Malware Testing

I would like to suggest at this point that every app that is going to be released be uploaded to our standard MultiMalware testers:

http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexx.html
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

It just does not make sense to have people posting about Viruses being detected from their AntiMalware products when it could have easily have been checked just prior to release.
I think this just make sense.

Especially with the increasing number of releases we are doing.

Now the hard part Sad

What to do if VirusTotal or Jotti do find something?

High priority apps

Some Apps I think deserve High Priority on the Portable release schedule:

- InfraRecorder (A DC/DVD burning tool)
- InkScape (Vercor drawing application)

Maybe there are some more waiting for release but these apps have no counterpart already available.

FF 3 B4 Addons

Submitted by iugradmark on March 13, 2008 - 12:38pm

I am wondering what I need to do with the PA version of FF 3 Beta to make my addons work. For my desktop, there are a couple of boolean checks that I added per LifeHacker site that allow my addons to work but that does not seem to be the case with the portable version.

Thanks,

Mark

Re-Working Left Column of Apps

Submitted by Patrick Patience on March 13, 2008 - 2:15am

As I continue to look at it day after day, I thought it might be a good idea to say something now. The list on the left side of the site labeled "Apps Hosted Here" needs to be re-worked a bit in my opinion.

I think we should have kinda a vote on which apps are most important to users, so we can show those in the sidebar, along with which is most popular. Because name's normally don't give away an application function, but if it's popular, the user will click on that link.

Pre-1.0 Release Note on Apps

John T. Haller's picture

I'm thinking about keeping a pre-1.0 release warning on apps that a user uses to create, store or edit their personal data. 1.0 releases are technically considered development versions by most folks in the know (alpha or beta quality) but end-users may not be familiar with this fact. I'm thinking of this:

Pre-1.0 Release Note: This is pre-1.0 software and may have occasional bugs. Backing up your data regularly using the easy-to-use backup utility in the PortableApps.com Platform is recommended.
