A PortableApp for the Traveller and his USB stick?

Submitted by englishman on April 15, 2011 - 6:06am

Just wondered whether anyone uses (or knows of) a utility, running off a USB stick that could:

1. Confirm that you have a live internet connection
2. Determines the IP address and then the Internet Service Provider of the connection is (helps if you need to use the ISP's SMTP mail server)
3. What Firewall and Anti-virus the host machine recognises as being installed.
4. What the Operating System, RAM and disk space available is.
5. Whether you are in an Admin user or not (helps to know if you can load your Truecrypt volume etc.)

Create your own .paf

Submitted by spicy on April 13, 2011 - 10:11am

Can anybody please tell me if (and where) the packager to create my own .paf can be downloaded?

I would like to package 1 or 2 apps that I use pretty frequently but since they are not freeware I cannot ask anybody else to package them for me.

If I could download the tool to package them I could finally use them in the same way I use other .paf applications and also launch them from my USB flash drive.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Spicy

Autorun

Sometimes I have problems with this function and when I connect my kingstone to pc and run autoplay in the window doesn't compare "open with start portable apps"!

I've tried a lot of times to reinstall the software also the updated release but without success.

Does anybody know the solution?

Thanks

SSH Proxy for DNS only?

So some sacrilegious person or another decided to block the portable apps domain at work. Now, this isn't terribly difficult to get around, since I'm obviously doing it right now. However, though portableapps itself isn't a big deal as far as bandwidth consumption, other things tend to take up quite a bit and my upload speed from my home connection is poor at best...

reply with quote button

Does anyone else think the forums should have a "reply with quote" button?

It would be easier than typing in the HTML code. It would also be useful to people who don't know HTML, and don't bother to click on the "More information about formatting options" button to find out.
