viewable Media file on USB media running on any OS: Linux, OSX, and Windows no installation and no reboot

Submitted by media on USB on May 27, 2009 - 2:14pm

would like to view media files on USB media. Media files should be viewable without installation and without reboot.
USB media may contain binaries for the required OSs

Any ideas, how to handle this?

I hate to Impose but

PDF readers are all well and good. But what I'd really like to do is find a way to make booklets. This is something that requires a whole lot of "Imposing".

First you need a way to combine different pages into a single PDF file. Sometimes this requires resizing of one or more pages so they're uniform in size. Sometimes this requires cropping, and some times it requires "padding" the borders. Sometimes it requires scaling the whole page.

A workaround is to "print" the page to a virtual printer where you can specify the paper size, and then click "fit to page".

catacombae

It seems to me there are dozens of ways it would be helpful if a portable app could make Macintosh HFS and HFS+ formatted disks readable on Windows.

Inasmuch as this one is open source, I assume it would be possible?

In particular, it would be handy of some sort of disk cataloging software like Cathy were able to catalog the contents of Mac formatted diskettes and CDs.

TrueCrypt - please can we have portable app version?

Submitted by Roy22 on May 25, 2009 - 12:21pm

I know there's Toucan for encryption, but many users here will know & love the ever powerful and flexible TrueCrypt. Currently on v6.2, and both open source and freeware forever, I'm sure I'd not be the only person to appreciate the inclusion of this utility, pretty well unsurpassed and so widely used.

So, is there any chance...?

Prism (by Mozilla)

I searched around and haven't found anything current. There are a few threads from over a year ago about this, but nothing current. Is anybody working on it or planning to work on it? I'd sure like to have a portable version - or know how to make it portable.
