Launcher and registry keys

Submitted by vdp on June 7, 2012 - 4:20am

Hi,

I'm new to using the Launcher and would like to have clear instructions on how to do the following.

I'd like my custom PortableApp to register specific protocols so that from the shell or a web browser one could launch the app via, say, 'sip:1234@server'.
However, I'd like to make sure that if HKCU already has this protocol association, save it, modify it with my values and when the portable app terminates, restore the original values.

So, on custom PortableApp startup, do the following:

A question (suggestion?) about the intelligence of the Installer

After seeing this comment in regards to the release of FF13, I was wondering if the Installer is smart enough to recognize if the launcher.ini specifies a MinOS or MaxOS that the current system does not meet?

While blocking execution at the launcher stage is vital (to prevent installing FF13 on an OS > Win2k and then running it on Win2k), I think that (if it can't already) there needs to be a warning when installing to an OS that does not meet the MinOS or MaxOS of the app.

Please DONT auto delete apps with the auto updater

Its bloody stupid , grrr

Also provide an option to download to USB ( using a batch file redirecting temp worked) but i didnt figure on the bloody delete once installed idiocy
grumble.

Ill avoid using it anyway since ill be downloading via a mates broadband
im stuck on dialup again myself and i keep copies to give away etc.

Thanks for a great portable app system apart from that all the same.

Notify about outdated apps at the download page

Submitted by access2godzilla on May 29, 2012 - 8:55am

There are some outdated apps which cannot be upgraded. Is it not better to notify people of this on the download page of the apps?

For example, we can show a message like this on the Openoffice.org page:

Openoffice.org has a more recent version, [latest_version_number] but we do not have a portable edition since we do not have legal approval to do this.

Noob Question

Submitted by ._. on May 28, 2012 - 7:22am

im not sure how to ask this but hypothetically, say an app looks in %COMMONFILES% for files.

is there a way to force the app to look for those files elsewhere?
reasoning, the size of that directory is large and takes time to move back & forth.

would be nice if i could tell the app to look in the $AppDirectory.

thanks, if anyone can help.

[Closed] PAL: Custom Code error

I'm in the process of fixing bug #26187, but keep having an issue with some custom code I'm adding to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is what I have so far, and here is the last few lines from the generator log.

I can't figure out what macro I'm defining here.

Note that I've tried with both Rename, and with the sections commented out, and both produce the same error.

[Fixed] Smart Defrag 2.4 Issues

Well, 2 actually...

For starters, it's creating a file in "...\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\RANDOMFOLDERNAME\isd2update[1].upt," and judging by the filename is pretty traceable.

Also, I was looking through the options, and studying them more carefully, and it seems to me that a little ignorance on the user's part can make the app less portable (running on startup, of course, but also allowing the user to set boottime defrag, and allowing the user to shut down the computer automatically when defragmenting is over...)
