Multiple Portable Profiles Development Draft Notes (ie Mozila Firefox & ThunderBird)

Submitted by Yogui on January 5, 2009 - 8:10pm

Hi,

I’ve seen there are a few requests for Mozila Firefox & ThunderBird Multiple Profiles support. Some including myself pass –P to launch firefox.exe with an other profile, but then the portability is no the best.

The PAM menu standard is not defined yet but base something in the OpenOffice multiple apps management would be good as a starting point.

Of course we don’t want to make multiple copies of the whole app so in best would be to have Profile Folders may be like
+Data
+Profile
+Profile1
+Profile2
+Profile3

A Security suggestion..."drive last scanned for viruses" prompt?

Submitted by aahhaa on January 4, 2009 - 12:47pm

I don't know how difficult it'd be, but if there was a little

'Time since this drive was last virus-scanned' warning indicator

built-in to the PA launch window, it might save some folks some grief in future.
There is such an elapsed time monitor in Norton, but here the drive might be scanned from within (ClamWin) or without (host machine or net).

I've already forgotten to rescan, and I'm still adding apps!:]

HKU Problems.

I think this has probably been asked before but I can't find it. Cry

Most apps that store HKU store it in a key that's numbers change on different computers and users.

Is it possible to use a star * to identify the numbers with the registry plugin? Is there another way?

Okay guys, I'm going to try and make Uira Portable. I think this app is the only one out there that is an open source swf editor. But before I do it... I want to know.

1) How many of you would like this?

2) Should I do this? It's in beta and currently a dead project (but it's still a really good app!).

Here's a direct link to the app.

Caditor '09

Submitted by Caglow on December 26, 2008 - 1:58pm

Hello everyone! Not exactly sure if it's the right forum to post to but...

So, I made this application called Caditor half a year ago. It's a free text editor licensed under a license which fits the OS definition. Version 1.0 of the program was released onto SourceForge back in June (nobody liked it then). I made version 2 a few months later. So now, I've released Caditor '09 with several times the code as previous releases.

Features include:

500-step undo/redo: just what it sounds like
Caiff: diff-tool to view changes (Clug)
Chas: hashes text in editor (Clug)

Registry Rapper & HKLM problem...

Submitted by ekwere on December 26, 2008 - 9:20am

Hi to all,

I have tried to make portable an application by using registry rapper.

Now this application is fully portable, but it leaves some registry entries in the registry (HKLM section). I have understand that registry rapper "manages" only one registry key at a time, but .....is there a method to solve this problem???

Is there a registry rapper update to solve this problem?

Thanks for the attention.

Putting a game on the menu thing

Submitted by NotDeadYet on December 26, 2008 - 2:34am

I have no clue were to post this, so admins do what you want with this post.

Problem: I know how to get simple games like miniRA and age of empires and that kinda stuff, but how do i put it on the apps thing so that there is a pretty little picture. I want to open the menu thingy and be able to click on age of empires under textpad. Is there any way to put it in the apps menu section????

Do you need to know the registry changes the app makes to make a PA?

Submitted by SilentWalker on December 23, 2008 - 9:09am

I already read the Guerrilla Field Guide thingy....but I'm hopeless. I can't communicate with that sort of stuff...but i really want 2 make my very own PA. I'm a VB6 grade 10 student...that's my only exposure to programming (along with some stone-aged pascal). I know the apps you need before u make a portable app.....but what the hell do you do?
