Firefox Portable 2.0 Beta 2 Released

Submitted by John T. Haller on August 31, 2006 - 10:24pm

Firefox logoMozilla Firefox - Portable Edition (Firefox Portable among friends) 2.0 Beta 2 has been released. This is a package of the latest Beta of Firefox 2.0 and is a great way to test out the upcoming features of Firefox 2.0 without disrupting your local installation of Firefox (as a portable app, you can run it from anywhere you like, even your desktop). Get it from the Firefox Portable 2.0 Beta 2 page. Of course, if you're not the beta-testing type, you can always stick with standard release.

FirefoxPortable 2.0 Beta 2

Imported all my old data including extensions. When I started it went through the extensions and let me know which were not conpatable. Bookmarks and other settings came through without a problem.

The only problem I've had is with Firefox 2.0 hanging up when I try to go to a site that is shut down or try to download a file that can not be found. If I'm using tabs have to use control panel to shut it down. If using seperate windows have sometimes been able to shut just that window. Firefox 1.5 just says it can not find the site or file.

It's a beta

It is a beta. So you will encounter bugs, crashes, data loss and other fun things. No bug reports are taken for Firefox issues here, though.

Any portable-specific questions can be posted in the forums.

thanks a lot for this - using version 2.0 to post this comment Smiling

Works great!

So far I haven't encountered any problem using the beta version in terms of browsing websites and downloading applications. The only drawback is that the extensions that I used aren't supported yet. Overall, it's a great upgrade!

I keep getting a (false)

I keep getting a (false) positive from avg on the launcher file.
It's recognized as Downloader.zlob.DJW

It's AVG

...again. Ask them to fix their definitions.

Natural complement of portable Firefox

Portable Firefox gives the best when combined with Google Browser Synchronizer extension. I wrote something about that here:
Firefox: now Portable and Synchronized, never more without it.

RC1 available ;-)

Any date set for an update to RC1? I'd love to see this made Portable, SO many improvements over Beta 2 Smiling
