logoRegshot Portable 1.8.2 has been released. Regshot is lightweight registry and file comparison utlity for taking before and after snapshots of the Windows registry and file system. It is useful in determining where an application stores its data and how it affects a PC. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's open source and completely free.

PortableApps.com Platform 2.0 Beta 5 users who already have this app installed, simply click 'Check for Updates' in your PA.c Menu to update to the new version.

Features

Screenshot Regshot can snapshot the registry and an entire drive or portion of a drive before and after a given event and then compare the two snapshots to determine what has changed. This is especially helpful in determining where an application stores its data and what changes it makes to the local PC when it runs. Reports can be saved as plain text or HTML files for later use. Regshot doesn't make any changes to the registry itself or the local file system.

Helpful Tip: Regshot can pause or fail to complete on systems with larger registries. It works best if you start it and then don't interact with the window or switch focus away from it while it is working.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Regshot Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

I may be mistaken however the icon used here seems to remind me of one provided by an IDE by default and not of the original RegShot icon. The binary I have from SourceSafe for this release of the non-portable project uses six two-dimensional yellow cubes and arranged in a slightly different manner. Where did the Three colored cubes graphic come from?

The original RegShot uses essentially a modded Regedit icon, which isn't exactly kosher. So we're using one from the Crystal icon set released under the GPL instead.

isn't there a russian fork that updates this to 2.0.1.70 and adds more features including full 64 bit registry support?

thanks anyway and best regards

The Russian fork is a mod of the GPL standard version that does not provide the modified source code. So, it's basically an illegal package that may have additional nasty things included. As such, it should definitely not be used.

A most needed addition to be include in PortableApp.com Developers Kit. Now all we need is for RegFromAppPortable to be officially added to complete the kit for official use.
