logoDM2 Portable 1.23.1 has been released. DM2 provides several Windows enhancements that may help in every-day work. One of the nicest and most popular features of DM2 is minimizing windows to floating icons or to the system tray. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's open source and completely free. Read on for more details...

PortableApps.com Platform 2.0 Beta 5 users, just click 'Check for Updates' in the menu to update.

Features

ScreenshotMoreover, DM2 can manipulate windows in various ways: minimize to tray, make them standing always on-top over all other windows, roll to caption, resize, align to screen borders, hide, set the opacity etc. DM2 also helps with Open/Save dialog boxes, by providing user-defined menu with favorites and recent files and folders. Plenty of program's settings options will satisfy most of requirements. And that is not all! DM2 also supports custom plugins, which further enhances the program and that usually covers some more specific functionalities. So, from this aspect, one may think of DM2 as a small, but robust manager for all kind of plugins. Find what you need, plug it in, and use it.

Note that some windows will not work with DM2's right-click menu on the minimize button. This includes browser windows which don't use the standard Windows controls (Opera, Firefox 4, etc).

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

DM2 Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

After installation, look in the ...\DM2Portable\App\DM2\plugins\ folder (even with the non-portable version of DM2, the plugins come with the program, they aren't downloaded separately). If you run the portable version, open the DM2 window (right click DM2 tray icon, select 'DM2') and then go to the Plugins section and you should see what plugins are installed and running (and there is where you configure them too, by clicking the Config button after you have selected the plugin you want to configure).

I used to have a sig...until one of the mods ate it

Just found out by accident that DM2 will work on programs like Firefox and Songbird if you start up DM after the other programs. Right clicking on the minimise button will then work on Firefox to bring up the extended menu, and right clicking on the task-bar entry for Songbird will also bring the DM2 menu up.

the opacity works but once it is enabled you cant choose to minimize to tray or to float, so you have to disable it then choose to minimize or float, can't they interact collectively?

suggestion:
a cascade and tile option, and a option to put the windows back to their original state

when in virtual desktop mode keep floating icons only in their desk in which they where chosen to float(do not make them visible in all desktops, only in the one when it was ordered to float)

enable grouping of windows in taskbar

It could just be a limitation of the app itself. You'll need to try the regular version and see if it has the same issue. If so, you'll need to report it to the author.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
