logoµTorrent Portable 3.0 Build 25583 Rev 2 has been released by PortableApps.com. µTorrent is the world's most popular BitTorrent client. Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). This release updates the uTorrent Portable installer to download a confirmed clean copy of uTorrent from our secured download servers. This is a precaution due to uTorrent's site being compromised earlier today and ensures that every uTorrent Portable user will have a legitimate copy of uTorrent within regardless of when, where or how they update today and going forward. It's packaged as a portable app so you download on the go and it's in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Platform. It's released as freeware for personal and business use.

Update automatically or install from the app store in the PortableApps.com Platform Pre-Release.

Features

ScreenshotµTorrent is the world's most popular BitTorrent client. Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange.

µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources - typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all.

Various icon, toolbar graphic and status icon replacements are available, and creating your own is very simple. µTorrent also has support for localization, and with a language file present, will automatically switch to your system language. If your language isn't available, you can easily add your own, or edit other existing translations to improve them!

It should be noted that the reports of uTorrent.com serving up fake antivirus malware are completely unconfirmed and uTorrent.com appears to have been briefly taken offline when reports were made to ensure that downloads were clean.

This release of uTorrent Portable ensures that all users will have a confirmed legitimate and verified clean copy of uTorrent (scanned by all major antivirus engines) within uTorrent Portable once applying this updated version so all users of the PortableApps.com Platform will be automatically updated to the latest confirmed clean uTorrent release regardless of how uTorrent Portable was last used on their machine, even if settings were changed and uTorrent updated itself. As a precaution, we advise scanning your computers and portable devices with ClamWin Portable and SpyBot Search & Destroy Portable as well as other commercial antivirus products just to be overly safe. When we receive any information confirming or disproving this issue, we will post it.

UPDATE 4:11pm EDT - uTorrent.com is up and is indeed serving clean, legitimate copies of utorrent.exe

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

uTorrent has confirmed that their servers were hacked this morning between the hours of 7:10am and 9am NY time. Anyone who downloaded uTorrent between these hours is urged to scan their computers and drives for the fake antivirus malware. Anyone using any commercial antivirus product would have been protected as the fake antivirus software included appears to be about 4 years old and isn't very sophisticated.

Hey all, thanks for this update on the situation. I was really shocked and frustrated yesterday after upgrading on my *working* "protected" laptop...
And... Ha-ha! Those commercial antiviruses! Symantec antivirus was blocked by this virus and showed nothing to me! Stupid product! I had to reboot with my GNU/Linux portable LiveUSB and delete all infections (actually it's a file qackf.exe in the %Local Settings%\%Application Data%\ folder).
Anyway, thanks guys.
