Features

ScreenshotSpybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging.

To see a list of threats Spybot-S&D can remove, in the navigation bar at the left click on Support --> Threats. For an introduction to Spybot-S&D, please read the tutorial. If you fear incompatibility with other software you are now using, although we can assure you that there is no danger you can review our compatibility overview which lists some software whose compatibility has been analyzed.

Spybot-S&D can also clean usage tracks, an interesting function if you share your computer with other users and don't want them to see what you have been working on. And for professional users, Spybot-S&D allows you to fix some registry inconsistencies and extended reports.

Thanks for your work on this Kenny. I updated it to the final release by bringing in the new files. I also updated your launcher to add PortableAppsBase path replacement for better portablization on cloud drives.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Alright, thanks. Has language switching been added? Considering they use the path as the key and there isn't env var substitution for keys in the launcher (yet, I think because of this Chris thought about adding substitution for everything in the launcher in the future), this would have to be custom code for now.

I left it off for now. It's not a requirement for releases, at least not yet.

OH!, I really detest the interface of Spybot S & D 2.0 portable
which the updater automatically installed. How can we revert to
good old 1.6.2 then from that point just get the definition files as before?

John T. Haller's picture

You can find our portable version of 1.6.2 at various places around the net. But I don't believe they will be updating definitions for 1.6.2 anymore.

I found 1.6.2 portable at majorgeeks.com and the definition files still work
with that version... (the same way AVG 2011/9 & 8.5 files still work during a manual update for 7.5.xxx but in that case one can now disable the link scanner in 2013 making it behave more like 7.5 and I posted so over there )....by changing to advance settings and using the 'update' button on the main screen/window.

So I re-did the settings for the portable apps updater to ask first,
then simply un-check the option for 2.0.12 portable whenever it is presented.

Safer-Networking are receiving their own collection of negative bias regarding the new GUI over on their own forum, hopefully they will listen and fix.

If you rename the SpybotPortable directory to something other than the default name, it will no longer be read by the updater and you can still benefit from the auto-update feature for everything else.
