What about Standalone filters?
Will exist a PAF installer? o the best thing to do is download / decompress the Standalone filters from the MPC-HC website?

is the older version of MediaPlayer Classic not available here anymore? it is still updated to this day (v6.4.91 ?), and as such more stable than the HC version (v1.6.6).

also, i have plenty of AVI files that freeze the HC version, but play beautifully on the older classic. and this is, to me, more important than the HC functions that the newer version might (?) have.

both of them as the very latest stable built.

before somebody else tells me: am I doing something wrong, or is there a switch somewhere deep down that sits differently by default on either version?

MPC was abandoned in favor of MPC-HT and is no longer updated. The last update to MPC on their official SF site was back in 2007. MPC-HT is actively developed with 1.6.6 being just released last month. They use separate version numbering that have nothing to do with each other.

yes and understood, john, the separate version nbrs i have even mentioned in my post.

on open/public domain programs the development often goes funny routes, true. v6.4.9.1 claims to be from april 2011, though. thru which branch it was developed ... ???

fact remains that dozends of my AVI files play (well) on the old version, but not at all on the new one. actually, it freezes the MPC-HC.

any idea anybody?

That would be a question left to the publisher. As mentioned, MPC is LONG dead and only the official SourceForge page should be trusted for when development ended (2007). The original MPC folks still around are now part of the MPC-HT team.

Any questions on specific types of files are best addressed to the publisher, not to us.
