Any attemts to start in XP results in nothing. It just quits before it even tries to start.

When trying to download an older version, the "Google Chrome Portable homepage" send me to a page that only offer the latest version. Seems to be impossible to download any older version other than the latest.

Google Chrome 50 dropped support for Windows XP and Vista. This was well publicized over a period of about a year by Google and all tech news sites. We warned about it over our own social media channels as well. My own analysis was promoted via PortableApps.com, too: http://johnhaller.com/blog/2016-03-04--google-chrome-50-drops-support-fo...

Google Chrome Portable 49 is the last version to support XP. It is still available in our repository here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Google%20Chrome%20Po...

As it is a live installer, it is reliant on Google's version being available. I am unsure if it still is. From our original post in April: "As has been discussed previously, Chrome 50 drops support for Windows XP and Vista as well as Mac OS X versions 10.8 and earlier. On Windows XP, Chrome 50 will encounter an error on startup due to making calls to functions not present in the Windows XP kernel. On Windows Vista, Chrome 50 appears to run in portable mode, but will not be supported and use is not recommended. Users of Windows XP are urged to upgrade to a supported Windows OS. Users unable to upgrade should switch to Firefox."

Firefox is now the only mainstream browser to fully support Windows XP and Vista. If you are unable to upgrade to a more modern Windows OS, I would recommend switching to Firefox immediately. Chrome 49 is vulnerable to multiple attacks and will allow any website you visit to gain control of your PC.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
