While updating PortableApps to my flash drive dedicated to PortableApps, Norton 360 displayed a File Insight notice on my screen. I made a copy of it and save it to Downloads. The Details read Threat Type: Heuristic Virus. Detection of a threat based on malware heuristics. CDex-2.24.files. Threat name: PUA.InstallCore. Many users Tens of thousands of users in the Norton Community have used this file. Mature This file was released 3 years 3 months ago. Low This file is low risk.

Donate Euro via QR Code Test

I'm working on getting wire transfers working for as many folks as possible. One thing brought up is folks who use QR codes in the EU. I've put together a test one without an amount pre-filled and was hoping some folks in the EU could test it out. You don't need to make a donation, I'm just wondering if the code will work with your banking app and then let you pick an amount. Or if I need to make a few for pre-selected amounts.

Thanks for testing and please let me know your thoughts.

Avast issue: BabelPad can't be installed using PAF file

Submitted by RaphaelRB on November 16, 2023 - 7:05pm

When Avast antivirus is active, BabelPad can't be installed using PAF file, although automatic Updater can update it.

When installing using PAF file (with Avast active), it stops on "Downloading Babel Pad", "Connecting" and after a while an error message pops: "The installer was unable to download BabeIPad. The installation of the portable app will be incompleta without it. Please try installing again. [ERROR: SendRequest Error]".

Both updating thru automatic updater or deactivating Avast and installing using PAF file worksperfectly.

Another look at File Associations for PA

I was looking for a way to associate portable apps with file types in Windows, both to make the portable app the default program to open that file type and add the portable app as an option in the right-click "Open With..." context menu.

I found several previous discussions saying doing so will "break portability" because it would leave traces behind after the app is closed. However, Portable Apps already can add shortcuts and automatically launch apps on startup, which must also leave behind traces.

New Term For Dual Mode 32-bit and 64-bit Apps

I'm thinking about changing the term I use to refer to portable apps that include both the 32-bit and 64-bit apps within them and automatically switch. Currently, I use the term "Dual Mode". Originally, I was going to call them "Universal" but Microsoft started using that for their UWP thing. I was considering "Dual Build" but regular end users may not know what build is. Also considering "Dual Version" but that could be confusing since some apps include an older version of the app for 32-bit users or pre-Windows 10 users.

Latest Releases & News on homepage

Submitted by Emka on November 3, 2023 - 7:12am

It's been like this for a few days already:
In the bottom left corner of the homepage, the lists "App Releases & News" and "Just New Apps" under the headline Latest Releases & News are no longer lists but just links.
I don't know if this was changed on purpose, if it's a site bug or if it's my browser's (or an add-on's) fault. In any case, I find it more complicated now to look for updates since I don't use the platform launcher.

Which of the 14 download buttons, is the real download buttons ?

Hello,

I wanted to download 7-zip
7-zip does not offer a portable version in zip

So I searched for 7-zip 23.01 portable and found

https://portableapps.com/news/2023-06-27--7-zip-portable-23.01-released

I went to that page but there are 14 download buttons.

Are they all the same thing.

I think I will go to the first one and run whatever executable it downloads
