Portable Keyboard Layout

Hi all. I have created a program called Portable Keyboard Layout.
It is like Tavultesoft Keyman, but it is free licensed under GPL 3.
With it you can use your favorite keyboard layout (like Colemak, Dvorak, etc.) everywhere. It works with non-ASCII layouts, like hebrew or classic greek (with multiple diatricics) too.
It is already portable. Smile

You can find it at http://sourceforge.net/projects/pkl
And the "support forum" at http://www.autohotkey.com/forum/topic28447.html

Regards,
Máté from Hungary.

Wow.

It works quite well.

One thing that might be cool to add is the ability to make custom keyboard layouts, apart from the 2 you have added.

It is easy

Do you see the downloads page?
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=213088&package_id...
There are 24 pre-packed layouts (for example 7 Colemak-variations, 5 Dvorak-variations, 4 classic layout, etc.), and you can create your own:
You can rewrite the layout.ini file, or with Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (freeware) you can design it, and with "utilities" (see the source) you can generate PKL's files. (It requires Perl!)

not sure what it does

I could not find out exactly what this should do.
I downloaded it , also the other files on the same page, but when I try to run it, all I get is small dot on the screen, which does dissapear when I come with the mose pointer near it.

Is there some manual somewhere?

Try one of the „standalone layouts”

Sorry the late.

Please, try the Colemak Standalone Layout.

Currently there is no manual. Sad

Can you just give some brief info as what I should expect to happen when I run the software?

What does it do?

You can see it at the first post. Wink

So. As you know, you can use different keyboard-layouts in your computer, like QWERTY, Dvorak, or russian, arabic, etc. Every computer has this layouts, but – for example – if you want use Colemak layout (http://colemak.com), you can install a navite driver to your computer, but it requires administrator privileges. At school, at net-caffee you must use one of the built-in layouts. With my program you can use your favorite layout everywhere.

Step-by-step:
1) Download the Portable Colemak layout (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=213088&package_id=...)
2) Unpack it
3) Run the pkl.exe
4) Enjoy.

You will see a helper image with the Colemak layout. If you press the "k" key, "e" is appeared. You can disable it with Left Alt + Right Alt. You see a tray icon too, try right click on it. See the pkl.ini for settings.

have done

what you told me.

OK, when I run the exe, there is an icon in the tray. Hungarian and US flag. Fine.
I can right click on it and can select prolimak hu and us.
OK my faoult, I have so far never heard about prolimak, but there is it.

Open notepad editor and try keys. it seems that only few charactes are generated, since y, x, c, v on my swiss german keyboard produce z.

some keys produce lineshift, all number keys seem to produce * .

hmm somehow strange.
The help pic with windows and f1 is ticked in the menu of the icon, but it does not do anything.
There is small dot, squere box of about 4x4 pixel in the middle of the screen. If I come near it with the mouse, it disappears.

Then I tried to download more of those layouts. Inserted them where the two orignal are, but this has no function, since I cannot select them, they are not listed.

I actualy thought this util would let me for example type czech letter (on open office or similar in czech language) on my computer having swiss german layout by standard.

However I could not find any layout being produced when typing in notepad, abt 30% of the keys creating an carriagereturn/linefeed and others somehhow weird combinations of characters.

@farkas

I would like to create a keyboard file for czech layout, but still quite confused how this has to be started.

Can we get into contact somehow?
