Changing Icons

How would one change the icons on folders in the documents and portableapps directories and additional folders and have them stay when moving to different pcs and having the drive letter change?

Folder Icons

Wouldn't you change the icons in, example:
X:\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\App\DefaultData\FolderIcons

I've noticed in some of the theme packs, there are folder icons included. I know these may be identical to the default icons, but couldn't you create your own and replace the default icons here, with your own?

Let me clarify

I mean if I make new folders, ir study, backups, databases, or if I want to put specific icons on the app folders, is it possible to set these these thru relative paths?

ah

sure.
Just take a look at the Desktop.ini in the Documents folder. Thats the file which tells Windows to use a non standard Icon. And it supports relative paths so you dont have to worry about drive letter changes.

Thanks for the help Simeon.

Thanks for the help Simeon. Unfortunately I'm a bit to noobish to be able to translate the documents.ini into anything that can help me with the issue. I have a series of icon libraries on my portable and I want to set some folders to use icons from them. Is this possible or do I need to extract them into individual icons files and if so how do I set them?

hm

I think it easiest way is to have individual icons. One per folder. Then you put all the Icons in a folder called Icons in your Documents folder (i am assuming you have the PortableApps Menu installed on your drive).

One example:
You have a folder called "study" inside your Documents folder. You put the Icon you want for this folder into the /Documents/Icons folder and rename it "study.ico". Then you create a file called "Desktop.ini" inside the "study"-folder and put the following text into it:

[.ShellClassInfo]
InfoTip=Contains my study stuff.
IconFile=..\Icons\study.ico
IconIndex=0

Hope that works.

Thanks Again Simeon

I got this working and managed to use icon libraries too from applying what you said and reviewing a host desktop.ini that directed to an icon within a library. Thanks heaps Simeon. Time to pimp my folders ;p lol.. jk

Thanks man
