can't select a specific sound to play when new messages arrive...under 'tools', 'options', 'when new messages arrive'...if i select 'use the following sound file', nothing happens when i click the browse button...
the default sound works fine, but i want something different!

It works fine for me on my portable install. Can you try a default install (no extensions or anything) and see if it works so we can narrow down if it's your profile or the PC?

* i poked around a little more, when i went into the 'tools', 'options', 'advanced', 'general', 'config editor'--i found that the value for 'mail.biff.play_sound.url' was pointing to 'file:///FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF:/[filename]'
i changed it to what i thought was the right value (F:/[filename]), it then works fine--i can then go to the 'general' area and change the sound file. but when i close t-bird portable and reopen it, then the value changes on its own?
i even changed the place where the sound file is (put it on the 'c' drive), then the mail.biff... changed to 'file:///FC:/[filename]...did it do this because it's assuming that everything should be on the flash drive?
