Well...

... I ran it from a USB drive and found something out. It doesn't store any of it's info in the registry, unless you setup start at startup which I didn't do.

Problem, though. It stores it's info in an XML document on the host computer at
C:\Documents and Settings\[name]\Local Settings\Application Data\TechSmith\Jing

It would probably be possible, though, to make a batch file that would copy the data from the USB drive to the host machine and then delete it afterwords. Convert this from bat-to-exe, give it the command for "run/start app\jing.exe" And we have ourselves something. I'm currently working on this batch file, which would be really simple if frekkin vista didn't move the application data folder in Vista... Any help with .bat files? Anyone?

Although it requires .NET framework... .NET is becoming more and more popular amongst computers; everyone I know has it from auto-updates from microsoft. And since it stores next to nothing on the harddrive (nothing if I make this batch file...) I think it could be done.

So if anyone could help me out with the wildcards in Vista/XP for %user% or %appdata% (I don't know what they are, if those are it woo hoo) then we could possible have something here.

All we need now is .NET portable...

This one's different, you

This one's different, you should give it a go.

It takes Screenshots and videos, and works really nicely.

I use Jing several times

I use Jing several times week, Lightscreen is to old school. with Jing you go way above and beyond just screen capture, you can add text, arrow and highlight stuff before you take the final shot, or save to a file. I have jing on my portable app, I carry .net with me to install... if I have to but most of the time I dont. Would be great if Jing become a true portable app though.

Better than FSCapture?

I use Faststone capture, which doesn't need .NET. Is this any better?

I am not my signature.

Faststone Capture is a very

Faststone Capture is a very good Screen Capturing Program. The latest version is not free anymore. You can get a portable one from PortableFreeware. Also here.

In my opinion, the newest FScapture is nicer.

Jing ain't screen-shot capture

Please don't compare Jing to a screen-shot tool. Jing is all about capturing video presentation of applications.

.NET framework is only a requirement just like any DLL. As long as the system has it, it's possibly portable. Doesn't have it? May link to download & install.

nope

on most systems one wants to use portable apps on they do not have the rights to install software. so installing .net on a computer one doesnt have admin rights on is a no go.
