After successfully installing a plugin or a theme, and restarting firefox using the Restart button an an add-ons screen, the app never comes up. Instead I get Mozilla crash detector asking me whether I want to quit or restart. If I press restart then a generic version of FF comes on (without using my profile) if I quit it and start normally, it comes up normally with all plugins properly functioning. So it seems that a profile gets hosed every time after plugin install (or update) but fixes itself on cold restart.
Does anyone else has/had this issue and if so has anyone been able to resolve it? I, so far, went as much as getting a fresh install, and doing plugins one by one, but can't seem to be able to restart properly.

please give more information on your OS, settings,installation, FF version. Had a similiar problem with FF 2.0 on a slow drive where the restart function always took a lot of time and produced strange effects like yours.

Running Win XP, off of an 8 gig samsung pleomax usb hdd (1") the drive is fairly fast, much faster than my imation 2 gig flash drive. FF is the latest version 3.0.3 I believe, normal portable apps install, nothing tweaked just like it comes. Any version of FF 3.x has the described problem.
one test: open the taskmanager when FirefoxPortable is running and observe the process FirefoxPortable.exe - it should be there running even when you install a plugin and restart on the addons tab ( Perhaps you could improve a lot of by adding MrTech toolkit addon). The idea is, that the launcher doesn´t work correct or closes after the restart entry,so firefox is restarted but as a local app with a local -> different profile."Cold start" does a full restart with collecting all data by the launcher.Another idea is, that the restart entry transfer to FF launcher is malfunctionning.
Solution?? -> some testing is to be made
download and install a fresh 3.0.3 version to your desktop, disable the fire wall and start FFP, add an extension/theme and observe the behaviour. If it´s working fine, enable the firewall and try again with the next addon, don´t use your own old profile or app to exclude a broken file .
If testing was successful so far , then move the complete FFP folder to your external HDD.Restart FFP and close it after a normal startup.Then again restart and install a new addon.
If it´s working discard your old FFP and transfer your passwords and bookmarks if needed.Anyway come back and report...
