Does one reckon that shortcuts from any program, say Opera-USB could be put somewhere and recognised by the Portable Apps. platform or otherwise Xenon recognise them?
I'm glad for the vast array of portable applications, some which I never thought would ever be implemented in this way but shortcuts in my view are a must on Windows even though open source doesn't mean windows parse.

There are two ways you could do this. To do it the first way, you create a new folder in the PortableApps folder called Opera-USB (or something similar) and place the WHOLE program in that folder. Then, when you open PortableAppsMenu, the menu will add any .exe files in the Opera-USB folder to the list.
However, I have not used Opera-USB before, so I don't know if there would be multiple .exe files in that folder. If that is the case, i.e. there is an opera.exe and a crash.exe (just hypothetically), PAM will place BOTH these .exe's into the menu. To fix this, you can create another folder inside the Opera-USB folder with a simple name like "a" and write a batch file that will run just opera.exe. Then you can convert the .bat to a .exe, and PAM will only show the .exe that came from the .bat. That would be method #2.

I will think more about this as time goes on..
I use these programs directly on my hard drive and I find them very good.
I started out with the venerable firefox and thunderbird but funnily enough I rarely even use those things any more since I've found other things some commercial some not. The reason of course is because of the stupid situation with profiles and the like, complete hassle and waste of time but would consider them again if they were "fixed".
Windows is hard enough to keep stable and having these kinds of apps there is really good, with things like usernames and so forth but the portable apps menu itself leaves in my view much to be desired because as I see it, it (the menu) should always be "on top" no matter what and there should be a choice but currently it doesn't work like this and I have no idea why, so if anyone can say it would be very much appreciated.
Also, it should allow one to resize and remove icons and what have you because it only operates in a folder anyway and windows always ensures that the icons work; if anyone hasn't noticed you now can't use PA shortcuts in "Open With".

I tried it and it failed miserably. The program came up but it did what you said and ran op.com instead and wouldn't work with the firewall (onecare).
There are other programs like hwinfo32 I'd like to try, do you think I'll get the same vexing response?
What exactly do you mean by saying it ran op.com instead? Also, I just found geek.menu, a PortableApps Menu fork that will allow you to create shortcuts and hide applications in the menu (http://geek-menu.sourceforge.net/). You could probably use that instead of my complicated batch file method.

I'm using a few portable applications that aren't from this site and I just moved them to the portable apps folder and created another folder inside of that for the extra .exe's. The portable apps menu will only look in the first subfolders for apps and generally nothing beneath so the .bat file isn't necessary. I can't remember where it was but, I did find a nice download from another post before that allows you to create subfolders for the portable apps menu. They are in .exe format and you just rename the files so you can have subcategories. i.e. I put on of the files in a the folder for Open Office, then moved all the other apps in open office to a subfolder so now when I open my portable apps menu I can click Office to get a list of the open office apps.
Hope this is useful, wish I could remember where I found the other files.
