I find it rather odd, but

I find it rather odd, but you're right they don't show up. I had implemented it though...

Hi John

Funny things with windows now, you can't for some reason use "Open With" with any program that doesn't use the registry.

I'm hoping that someone like you can look into this and break the Windows mould once and for all giving users a real choice on how they use their programs.

Best regards

What I'm saying I suppose is

What I'm saying I suppose is that short of the portable apps launcher, Xenon seems to be the only reasonable "portable" application that can execute programs, even if file types are limited to its' own interface, however I think that in the interests of programming generally, that short cuts should work and maybe something in the registry has to be implemented even if on a temporary basis.

Thanking you

Huh?

There's is nothing temporary about the registry, at least nothing that won't leave traces.
But the current system seems to be fine - you can either do nothing and use the Windoze defaults, or you can specify two programs in the Association Editor. And if necessary, you can always browse to more programs with the Open With function. How's that not enough choice to use your programs as you like?
Besides, even Explorer has an Open With function, and that also lets you browse to an executable.

That's the point I'm making

You can't use "Open with" any more, it no longer works.

Do you suggest we go back to using .ini files?

Oh really?

Nothing wrong with ini files...
But anyway, I am very puzzled by your comment. I am sitting here, and I am happily using Open With both with Explorer and Xenon. All I can think of is that this might be a Vista issue... is it?

Yes probably

I can only assume this is the way MS wants to head. I remember the CEO saying they wanted to make it easier for open source to function on windows platforms, so how about making closed source work better with portable apps?
