FirefoxPortable 2.0.0.1 is installed on an external hard drive. I do not want it to update automatically to a new version of FirefoxPortable. I also do not want FirefoxPortable to connect to the internet.
First, I have modified several preferences in "about:config" to the following in order to prevent access to the internet:
(I type "about:config" in the address bar and type "proxy" in the "Find" box.)
(Preference Name, Status, Type, Value)
network.proxy.http, user set, string, 1
network.proxy.http_port, user set, integer, 8080
network.proxy.type, user set, integer, 1
Secondly, I have unchecked the Update settings in FirefoxPortable (Tools/Options/Advanced/Update tab). I specifically disabled "Automatically check for updates to: Firefox, Installed Add-ons, and Search_Engines." Before unchecking the auto update for Firefox, I selected the "Ask me what I want to do" radio button under "When udpates to Firefox are found." After checking the auto update for Firefox, this radio button section faded out, so that it may not be modified.
Unfortunately, FirefoxPortable periodically updates itself to 2.0.0.17 and creates an "URL Not Valid" alert window which is because of an incompatible Firefox Add-on. Is there a way to prevent FirefoxPortable from updating itself automatically?
looking at that last line, maybe it is one of your add-ons that has some coding in it that is asking for the update?
Sort of like how the Extension Manager add-on queries FF and the FF database to see if new versions are available.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
go to tools>options>advanced>update. and select/deselect what you need to there.
this will solve all your problems. you can still update add-ons any time.
An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I checked the Add-Ons in FirefoxPortable. I don't have an Extension Manager Add-on installed. Therefore, I don't believe that an add-on is seeking an update for itself. As I mentioned previously, I have already specifically deselected the "Installed Add-ons" checkbox, so that FirefoxPortable will not "Automatically check for updates."
During further testing, I deleted the "nsUpdateService.js" file in the ".../App/firefox/components" directory. I tried to manually update by selecting "Check for Updates" under the "Help" menu, and it doesn't work at all. However, this still doesn't prove absolutely that this deleted file will prevent FirefoxPortable from automatically updating itself.
