I didn't see any posts concerning this, so if I missed it, my apologies. As far as the PA Menu, would it be possible to get a scroll bar to quickly scroll through your list of programs? I'm not a programmer, so I don't know how difficult that would be, but it would help a lot when you have many portable apps. Thanks you...
Yeah, I'd love a scrollbar myself. The Vista Start menu has one, and it's really nice. But I believe it wasn't implemented due to technical limitations, so instead you can use the mouse wheel--that's usually just as fast.
Did you know that you can easily establish hotkeys for programs on the R34 Mod Menu? (Might work on the official PortableApps.com Menu, but I'm not sure.)
The R34 Mod Menu is an unofficial fork of the official PortableApps.com menu and is therefore not officially supported by PortableApps.com.
With hotkeys, you can esily establish, for instance, Alt-T to launch Thunderbird Portable or Alt-F to launch Firefox Portable. This saves a lot of scrolling, etc.
Further, the R34 Mod Menu permits categories, which also cuts down on the scrolling of an insanely long list of uncategorized applications.

It's possible. Not in the initial next release, though, as we're mapping out a few more things.
To make scrolling easier, you can either scroll with the up/down arrows by clicking them with the mouse, use the mouse scrollwheel or use page up/down on your keyboard.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thank you John & Jim for your info. For now I'm going to check out the R34 mod. Peace...

It would at least be nice to use mouse scrolling, I wonder if it is difficult to implement?
im kinda new to this sorta thing but is it possible to compress or compact or just make smaller the major apps (pref. all) before posting it on the downloads pg.? But not to lose functionability. Ppl who have small devices may not be able to get all the apps they want/need and they may not be able to buy new bigger ones.
Oh...and also the idea of renaming and subfolders, and a new better, more flashy "vista-ish" design. BAM!!!....as soon as i typed that last sentence, a great thought came to me. What about OS oriented themes (basically vista and mac ones)? itll be cool
and keeping the PA menu in the sys-tray, but adding a minimize button so that it doesnt fade EVERY SINGLE DAMN GODFORSAKEN TIME YOU OPEN AN APP!!! some ppl kinda like OPEN MORE THAN 1 APP AT ONCE. so itll be nice if you can decide when to minimize it (but keep it in the sys-tray not in the taskbar).
Double clicking the systray icon should minimise it to the tray and vice versa but the fading thing is probably ok providing there is an "always on top" option.
What's the peepz thinks?
"fading" feature looks cool
it's not like I can't figure out how to get the menu back
"No one man can terrorize a whole nation unless we are all his accomplices." - Edward R. Murrow
yea the fadings really cool...keep it. what e=we want is the ability to choose when to fade/minimize instead of it being done every time you open a app
and if it could do instant messaging as well I'd use it.
we have amsnportable, pidginportable, and Miranda IM Portable take your pick they all do IM

I clicked "login" and thought I'd be responding to you but instead was put at the bottom, why?
you can manually compress exe and dll files with UPX.
now how about subfolders, my list is getting too big to find anything. right now i'm using "portable smart menu" (lifehacker) but i have to edit everything manually.
I have an ASUS EEEPc 701 and the screen is a default of 480pixels tall. If there was at least some preset default menu sizes that would work. Or make it adjustable like a window.
Need to run many progs without hiding menu (when hold ctrl key). Can do that?
haven´t found it on the platform support page, perhaps I missed that or John has forgotten to update the page...
Goto PortableAppsMenu folder, open /data/PortableApps.ini with an editor like NotepadPortable and add the line
close and save. Restart the menu -> it will stay visible.
Leftclicking on the tray icon will take over the "show/hide" functionality alone..
Implementing a button or menu? I believe it´s not on the top10 for the next release,
because it hasn´t been asked for a lot
In fact, I build a button for my R34 Mod for the same purpose and I must say, I haven´t used it much for last months.

That's not actually what I want, but good anyway.
let´s see whether there will come some new hotkey functionalties besides the already existing with the next release..

but what about "always on top" would that not be useful as a feature?
after reading this, i tried out r34mm and its pretty good. only problem is i can't add extern programs there, and some shortcuts which require extra parameters can't be added. however, i was able to add .jar & .vbs files.
they should incorporate some of the ideas into PAM.
some additional ideas including:
- drag and drop of shortcuts,
- external links,
- shortcut parameters,
- custom icons.
since PAM only allow one instance to run, i just created a shortcut in quicklaunch next to the start menu. and instead of clicking on start, i click on pam.
so you would think.
How about being able to group the apps into different groups/folders...
This has been asked MANY times, the feature is coming in one of the upcoming releases.

But it's a good thing that it's coming
