Hi there,
I would really appreciate it if someone could direct me in the right direction.
I have just bought myself a 1GB USB drive and have downloaded PortableMozilla and Filezilla. I save my web site username and password in Mozilla as well as username and passwords in Filezilla.
What is the best way to protect this information on the drive, because right now if someone had to pick up my USB drive they could have access to all my information. I have seen file encryption software, but I don't want to encrypt and decrypt everytime I use my USB drive.
The ideal situation for me would be to plug in my USB drive, enter a password, which would then give me access to everything on the drive until I unplug.
Is there such software?
Thanks in anticipation
Regards
Tony
Presently, as far as I know there is no such easy way to security for a USB stick. Presently I work in the following way: important file will be encrypt/decrypt by yadabyte (you can put it in the related folder, and the encrypt/decrypt time is 3 seconds for 25 files), for added security I'm testing axcrypt2go (look on sourceforge.com )but so far is just at alpha status. Otherwise search yadabyte.org for the mentioned file, I'm dreaming of a secure way for my hard drive (20Gb), there is a lot inside, but as now this is the only way that I know.
For safety I can suggest portable clamwin ( it is working just fine) and anonymizer (antispyware) anonymizer.com (appearance looks strange but perfectly working.
Best
I do not know if this helps. But cryptainer allows you to install an encrypted volume on your USB. The free version is limite to size but not number of volumnes. The purchased version does not have this limitation.

Thanks but I've tested also this one, and in the registry it write couple of marks which every time I prefer to cancel because it install the working files for the encrypted driver, in order to avoid any traces of my using the host machine; over here company are quite prehistoric in the use of computer: "You know that you have the best software available, MS for them" but not for me is not even feasible or fast during your work so..........
If they discover my doing it could be a difficult time.
So.............. I keep looking
Naos
I've been using BCArchive ( www.jetico.com ) which will encrypt files and folders. Unfortunately I just discovered that it does save some settings in the registry :^(

guys but I have just noticed a couple of BIG problems in testing. This'll probably push the release of both this and mkPort back by about 4-7 days. Sorry

I have been using truecrypt on my thumbdrive. http://www.truecrypt.org/ I basically just made the entire thumbdrive an encrypted volume. You can even create a volume within a volume. You basically have it encrypt the volume and store it as an innocent looking text file, that just happens to take up the entire space of your drive. You can pick the encryption algorithm and what drive letter to mount it to. You can also password the volume, or just use a key file. I haven't check the registry to see if it leaves keys or not.
This has already been discussed--numerous times. TrueCrypt is not a good candidate for portability because you need to have administrative privileges to use it for the first time on a new computer (it has to install a driver)--something you typically don't get on public machines.
