I'm having a problem with OpenOffice.org 3 PR 2. Searched the forums and haven't seen anyone else with this predicament. This may come up for others in similar situations as mine.
I downloaded and installed OpenOffice_Portable_3.0_en-US_PR_2.
It works fine if sluggish on my home computer running Vista Home Premium and a newer version JRE. Even loads fine from Mod 34, but when I take my stick to computers running XP where I'll be using the Portable version from the flash drive (I use the local install of OOo 3.0 at home) It pops up an alert message stating that Open Office requires Java to be installed. Paf version 2.4.1 ran fine from the same machine so I suspect that the updated OpenOffice requires a newer JRE than the host machine has installed, and I cannot get Admin access to update Java there.
I then installed JDK 6 update 10 (dev kit and runtime environment) to the stick, created the js.bat file in the root dir, tested it and all seems well with that install. Now I'm faced with getting OOo 3 to link to the JRE on the flash drive and use it rather than the older version on the host.
Can anyone tell me how to set the path in OOoPort to point to the portable JRE install rather than the local install on the host? Is that possible to do?
Thanks.

https://portableapps.com/support/openoffice_portable#java it works..
When you go to the options/java tab in OOo, all system java paths show up but none is selected: leave it as it is, your portable java will be used as default, though the path isn´t listed.

Went to the link you supplied and read the instructions there.
Looks like the java_readme.txt file in the OOo Portable program folder, but I couldn't understand those instructions since they were in German. Bablefish didn't make it any more understandable. Anyway, I'll check out if it works tomorrow when I'm at the outside computer that I've been using. I'll post the results.
Thanks for the help wk it now works.
