Firefox 2.0 Beta Released soon (Not Requesting)

I read an article yesterday that said Mozilla would release FF 2.0b later this week.

When FF 2.0b is released can I let my U3 PFF 1.5.0.4 update itself to FF 2.0b?

Are they too different to use that way?

(I am NOT requesting that you imediately release a PFF 2.0.)

I wouldn't

It's untested and could bork your U3 FF install.

Not overwriting.

I meant when FF eventually prompts me to update. I would assume that version would be tested by then.

Not downloading and overwriting the FF portion of my PFF.

I doubt very much that a release-level build of Mozilla is going to prompt you to upgrade to a beta-level one, even if the beta is newer. That just wouldn't be a good idea.

FF 1.5 was beta.

I just thought I remember upgrading from FF 1.0 to FF 1.5 through the auto update feature and it was a beta then.

I could be wrong though.

As a general question, and this may be too general to answer with a general answer-

If FF prompts the update is it OK to let it update? (Even from 1.5.0.4 to 2.0)

It may be too early to answer that because of the beta testing and John or other dev's experience with 2.0.

Firefox 1.0.x didn't have auto-update. That was a new feature in 1.5.

As for whether it's okay to auto-update from 1.5 to 2.0 (which I doubt it will prompt you to, anyway), I wouldn't. 2.0 changes how a lot of things work, and PFF may break entirely if you try to use the 1.5 launcher to launch 2.0.

Thanks.

I suspected that because it is so different.

Try this way...

...(worked for me):

Get the portable FF 2.0a1 from https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/browsers/portable_firefox/test
next, download the official FF 2.0b1 and extract the files from the setup.exe to the appropriate folders of alpha1...

Hope it helps...
