Apps menu won't start on WIN98SE

I think applied the old Winxp patch.
Only started with the menu, then insatlled apps.
It works on WINXP Home.
But the menu does not start and will not manually start
on Win98Se, but I can start 7zip portable manually.
any fix for this ?.

1.1

Are you sure you're using the Platform 1.1? Click Help and then About in the Menu.

PortableApps menu

The PortableApps Menu itself, clicking on HELP, it takes me to
PortableApps support page.
No choices or anything.
Does that help ?
If I check the properties of the StartPortableApps.exe
it says fileversion 1.0.0.0
product version 1.0.0.0
Size=51.2 KB (52,476 bytes)
Size on disk=64.0 KB (65,536 bytes)

Hope that helps...

Worked Great But,

Maybe you can tell me why Win98Se does not visibly
auto start, meaning(I have to go to my computer navigate
to the flash drive and start portbale apps menu that way)

And I do not have a way to "disconnect" or
"safely remove Hardware" or anything I can find,
is this just a WIN98SE quirk ?
or maybe there is a fix ?

Thanks the updated Menu works on my WIN98SE now.
As long as I go manually start it ofcurse.

Not a big deal to me, the remove is more troubling.
I just pull it out, I wonder if that's going to cause problems,
corrupt files, or corrupt the flash drive,
wear it out more quickly, that kind of thing.

what driver?

what driver for the usb stick do you use with w98se?
The native support is weak and some sticks might have some driver with it supplied but those will also be often limited to 512mb and as you see there will be some problem with removing the stick etc.

Try to search the web for genereic drivers like:
nusb31e.exe (or nusb31d.exe in german etc)
This will provide full usb stick support (16g works well) and will provide the small icon with the green arrow in the tray. You can then remove the stick safely by that, same as in w2k or XP etc.

But one thing will be difficult to achieve: the autoplay on usb is not supported this way in w98se, you have to start the menu manually anyway.

PNY

The ones we use most are PNY.
They are small. 512 and 1GB.
I use the drivers that PNY tech support told me
to use which are, WIN98SE_Driver_Rev13_v1
I think they are generic too ?.

negative

they are not

thought you got them from the manufacturer, I recommend everyone to use the generic once.
remove all drivers you have installed for the sticks so far, install the drivers from the site I indicated. (choose the right language version).

From there , you have support for all sizes and brands. I did not met any which did not work so far.
You will get then the green arrow icon in the tray, enabling you to remove all drives correctly.
