It's the same as the other 3.0.x releases, it's just a bug/security fix. If this is your first exposure to version 3, please read the other speed-related topics before starting another one. 3 is much more taxing on a flash drive than 2.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I've been using 3.0.3 since it's release. I run it on a flash drive and on my HD and 3.0.4 just seems to be running much slower. I switched back to 3.0.3 and I've already noticed a considerable speed improvement so I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this.
I have 3.04 for the U3 on a sandisk usb drive, and it's great! Nothing but the typical startup delay that plagues all Firefox versions that I've seen.
However, the PortableApps version is pretty much unusable for me. Even the new test version that was released is so slow that it's literally of no use. I tried loading up Opera's USB version, and it's so good and so fast that I'll probably start using that one for most of my browsing, except where Opera just won't work (it's one major weakness)
Anyway, if Opera works, and the old version of Firefox Portable worked, why doesn't the current builds? If Sandisk's U3 people can make it work, why can't PortableApps?
Not trying to flame here, I just have to question if it's really a Firefox problem?
Other than this issue, I love the PortableApps "products"!
There is no Firefox 3.0.4 for U3. The last official version was something like 1.5.0.7. Sandisk has a 2.0.0.4 on their site that uses my old code. There are some illegal ones floating around (several with malware included), though. Many have improperly disabled some functionality without informing the users.

Well I forgot to metion that my U3 version is upgraded via the normal Mozilla upgrade. I tried it the first time that I was told a new version was available and it worked, so I've kept up to date ever since. The version reported is indeed 3.0.4, so that's all I can say.
I wasn't aware of that! I see now that there are threads regarding that elsewhere here. I'll just stick to Opera for now. Never thought I'd be saying that...
Firefox is just slow but it loads pages pretty fast though so I have no idea what the problem is. Loading it and using some functions (like typing into the address bar and waiting for suggestions, or opening more tabs) is dead slow, but actual page loading is pretty fast. I even think it's faster than Chrome in this. If they only could make it lighter and faster as an application... that would be paradise.
Firefox 3.0.4 starts slow from local hard disk on Vista HP
Fist I am thankful for all the work in portableapps.com!
Firefox 3.0.4 portable starts slow (about 10 seconds) from local hard disk C:\program files\portable\...) on Vista Home Premium. Comparable slow against installed IE (3 seconds).
Any idea with it could be slow on a local hard disk?

In that case, you're leaving things behind on each PC you use it on. The old Firefox Portable launcher doesn't support all of Firefox 3's stuff.
While running, though, there's no difference between the portable version and the U3 version on the same device.

All versions are slow. I just stick with version 2 until the bug is straightened out.
It's not slow too much for me. Works fine. Except if I have 100+ tabs opened. And I have many extensions.
Para mi una de las deficiencias de las versiones portables de Firefox
es la falta del Plugin Flash player y del java Gracias.
