not an expert but...

I did the same thing and was able to fix it.
I did a clean install of TB including setting up my two accounts. I then replaced the [mail] folder with the one from my corrupt profile. This assumes the mail folder is intact and the error is some where else in the profile.

Backup?

You could always revert to your latest backup.

Yeah

I already knew you didn't do a backup. Telling you to use your backup was a way of saying that you SHOULD have done a backup without being quite as harsh.

Portable media is prone to corruption. Too many things can go wrong. It could be pulled before all files are written, it could be hit with a virus from being inserted into multiple public computers, it could be a hardware failure from multiple writes, it could be human error. It isn't a case of "if" it will fail, it is a case of "when".

The point is that if you (or anybody else) AREN'T backing up, you are inviting data loss.

P.S. I back up my ThunderbirdPortable profile folder and my FirebirdPortable profile folder daily. It takes less than two minutes total.
