It would be cool if he emailed the original author of CDisplayEX and was able to get the author to use your logo, it looks much better than the original.
Not sure what that splash will look like. I would rather have you just make a PA.com branded one for us. Why don't you and we can post it and see if John is OK with it?
john is creating a new official Splash, because im not the offical designer, all my work (PAM logos, splashs, wizard.bmps and themes) are UNofficial.
but use her the new or old icon from cdisplayex? by the new icon, please dont forget the credit for me, it would be nice.

Has anyone heard from the dev or anyone else related to this?
If not, does anyone have a copy of PR5 that they could put somewhere? (I saw some links to what was ostensibly a rapidshare copy, but I'd rather not put any trust in that.)
I'd really like to have a portable cdisplay-type program for reading my scanned comics and manga...
Lately I have done some research to find the best Comic Book viewer and I currently think CDisplayEx is the best (Open Source) I found so far. I found some others but some use JAVA and so on. Also the broad range of supported formats is great.
Although this application's development is halted since 2008 at version 1.4 I think it offers everything one would need from a comic book reader.
I see that this application is developed to be portable for ever a year now and I can highly recommend this application to read (own created?) comics.
Currently I dug up my old scans of a 28-page comic I have created in 1998; "Speaker - The Alien Connection" and am currently adapting it to the CBZ format to be used with the reader. This process is slow as I have to scan the rest of the text balloons, re-letter the comic and translate it into English. I also am coloring the comic and am up to page 17 (of 28) in the process.
I also have 6 or 8 unpublished pages of a never finished sequel I might add to the comic and make it a Special Edition / Director's Cut version with 'Special Features'. I'm not gonna rush it and will try to create a nice digital version. ( Shame I cannot link to the [preview of the] comic due to the self promotion rules. )
Anyway, thanks for making this application portable and I hope the year (and more) time spend waiting for this application to go from Pre-Release to full product will be worth it.
Note to all artists around... have you created comics please consider to make them available as CBR or CBZ and maybe we can make the comics available for this cool application. Maybe even some Comics / Cartoons inspired by the Portable Apps platform itself. This way we could perhaps make some content available for this reader as well. (But personally I would like to keep my comic Copyrighted so my comic won't be released under a creative commons license, but maybe a solution to this could be found)
On a final note I have to admit I haven't tried the Portable version of CDisplayEx Portable, just the regular available zip version, but I think in it's line of apps CDisplayEx is one of the best around.
Why?? When there is already a "portable" zip on SourceForge??
Hi all,
Registered just to ask this - why waste time on making a portable version of CDisplayEx, when there is already a "normal" portable version available at SourceForge:
1st. many apps (zip) claim to me portable, yet might leave traces on the host system and potentially screw up local installed versions. The PortableApps.com (TM) launcher will handle these situations correct. Not sure if or what CDisplayEx would leave on the host system, but most applications need a launcher.
2nd. PortableApps.com format has a special folder lay-out that accommodate the PortableApps.com backup feature of the menu. All settings will be redirected to a special data folder to facilitate the backing up and restoring. It's safe to say that most zipped applications do not use the PortableApps.com folder lay out.
3rd. Because of the slower speeds on flash drives the launcher wil display a splash screen to indicate to the user the application is loading. While I personally don't care and even find the splash screens not needed, many people seem to value the splash to indicate something's happening. Also the splash easily identifies an application as being the PortableApps.com version.
For the next release, update the appinfo.ini to the new format, update the installer to the latest PortableApps.com Installer (0.10.4) with the PA branding on the left, ensure that help is just help.html for the name. And start a new forum thread when you do the update. As long as we fix these, there's no reason this can't become official in a couple weeks.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I'll upload it to the pre-releases for you. John, maybe to the new category? (I'll make it if necessary)

Please review the readme for language and structure.

Next release will include.

The developer formerly known as ZGitRDun8705
Once we go to SF, I am planning on emailing him.
I will let him know that all the work is community and open source so he can use it for the original.

I think the only things that need to be done are the new launcher and a PA.com splash.

So has the project moved forward yet? I tried to download the older version (listed above) but it was no longer available.

I'm ready to help update when Bill shows up again. And when we find the binaries...
Just being able to download one of those pr's would be good. The PR5 kicks out with a redirect error and the PR4 is 404ing.
The older versions hosted at sourceforge include batch files which are not something that I am able to run.
Welcome to the site
Could you please remove the link from your signature file on the user page, there is special place there for a homepage/blog link.
Thanks and Welcome Again

CDisplayEx_V1.4.zip
Are there any differences? Why not use the "proper" SoundForge then?
We get this question very often.

He sent me the source a while back to help him get things updated. I'll check it out, see what else might need updating, and give him a hand updating.
I'm looking forward to being able to add CDisplayEX to my PortableApps USB drive! Any word on progress?
