Make Drupal forums like phpBB

Found this on Drupal.org:
http://drupalart.org/node/171
Makes the forums look like phpBB.
Might want to consider it for these forums John Wink

I have the module installed

But it leaves a bit to be desired. I'm working on a custom solution involving that module plus some fancy CSS trickery to get Digg-style comments (one level nesting only) on the site.

Personally, I like the appearance of these forums just the way they are, subthreads and all. Sets the message board apart from all the other "sheep" out there.

Still have sub-threads

It will still have subthreads... but only 1 deep ala Digg. The heavily nested discussions can get a bit hard to follow here.

I don't know, I've gotten used to it, and I actually kind of like it now. If one subthread gets off-topic, it doesn't ruin the entire superthread. Having subthreads but clamping their nesting capability at one level would be kind of weird. ("okay, that was supposed to go another level deep, what happened?"). Plus, with fully-nested subthreads, everyone always knows who's addressing who.

Yeh

Actually, I like it how it is.
The phpBB thing was just something to look into.

The problem is that if you

The problem is that if you want to reply to a post near the top of the page, your post will be... at the top of the page. phpBB allows quotes so that your post will be at the bottom and the post replied to will be known.

Sub-Topics

You can disable the subtopic system of Drupal forum threads and have comments show up one after another, so I don't see the benefit of the phpBB third-party middleman solution.

It makes it look like phpBB, which most people are more familiar with. That's the only advantage.

I was thinking (even before this topic was made) of setting up a phpBB message board for portable app discussion on my site.
Would anyone sign up and participate if I did?

Probably not

This site is fine as it is, for most people.
I reckon you might get about, say 50 users at most.
I had my Cube Games Forums up for a while, but no one really came.

Sould try Google tactics...

Short supply; large demand. First you have to make it real interesting. And then, make it somewhat difficult to get. May do the trick. Wink

Well,

If you want, I could host it at Cube Games and maybe give you something like forums.cubegames.net
BTW, I like PunBB better.
