PR2 FR doesn't start at all

Hi Marko,
the whole french beta testing team (mostly under XP SP2) experience the same issue.

The launchers doesn't work at all. But starting scalc.exe works (for example). Of course it create a local dir.

Is it normal that, in PR2, the OpenOfficePortable.exe launcher had disapeared ?

more détails

I've downloaded en-US PR2

some differences noticed :
1. en_US has a OpenOfficePortable.exe and not fr_FR. See image
2. if I copy OpenOfficePortable.exe from en_US into fr_FR and try to launch, thers an error. See :image
3. help file is still in english
4. the directory structure is completly different between the two apps (en_US and fr_FR) ! see "Apps" directory for the two packages !

oh, and the installer do not propose to install python in fr_FR, but only on en_US.

Conclusion : i think the french package is not good at all ! Blum

Good luck

this is a incomplete package :-(

I've uploaded a fixed yseterday but it seams the sf mirrors delivers the old one.
I'll upload it again with another file name.

EDIT:Until the fixed package is up You can download the Launcher from:
http://oooportable.org/portableapps/OpenOfficePortable.exe (its the new french launcher)

thanks

How could I know if it's the good package ? (I know, md5 & co, but I want to be sure that people testing would get the good package)

Of course, at the moment, the new launcher gave the same error than the en_US one (see second image above)

I'll retry later this night or tomorow

Upload of the fixed fr package finished ...

... use the link and md5sum above.

Don't know what the problem was Sad

Please delete the old installation (the installer should be delete the old stuff but its better to use a clean install for the first test).

Sorry for the problems!

Yeepa !

Everything seems to be working fine under my 2 XP (SP2 and SP3, and one without MSCVRT)

Tommorow, I'll test under Vista.

2 mini-details :
- help file is still in english
- Installer doesn't propose to install "additional Python" (maybe normal)

Great work !

Using fixed French locale

Using fixed French locale (OpenOffice_Portable_3.0_fr-FR_RC_2.paf.exe), OpenOfficePortable.exe shrotcut is not displayed in PortableApps menu. I thought you wanted to display it with 3.0 release (so that we can get rid of sub launchers). Other than that, it seems to work fine.

Problem with icon switching

I would like to report that when i try to change icons in OpenOffice3 PR2 nothing happens. Tools > Options > View > Icons size and style. Large icons work ok, but then I change icons style to any option the menu flickers, and nothing changes.
Does it suppose to be this way?

see above in this post

iconpacks aren´t included in the testrelease
https://portableapps.com/node/16395#comment-101675
you can take them from a copy of 2.4.1 or wait till final release, the switch works..

Doesn't work even with imagepack

Thank you for suggestion, but it didn't help.
I have installed OpenOffice.org Portable 3 Pre-Release 2.1 Imagepack [fixed], but changing icons still doesn't work.
Supposingly it will work in released version.

It is tested with en de fr PR2 ...

... and works without problems.
It will not work with the PR1 versions because of the different structure.
(If You'll move all files from openoffice to OpenOffice.org 3 the imagepack will work in RC1 too)

Re: Problem with icons and menus

I completely removed OO3 PR2 Eng and reinstalled together with the imagepack. No change at all. The German version shows the same corrupted menues, too. DRAW and BASE look the same, btw.

Is there any place on the system where OO3 stores data except the 'PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable' folder?

No. The only place is ...

... PortableApps\Data.
I still can't reproduce this problem. I've tested all versions with XP, Win2000 and Vista - no problems with the menus!

Do You use default XP system fonts or did You change Systemfonts and/or styles on Your XP machine?

Did the 2.4.1 version work on this system?

I give up :-(

I don't know what is wrong on Your machine Sad

How did You made Your install, kid of USB device, install path?

Did You try another machine?

Did the OpenOffice.org 3 Beta2 Portable work?

Could You try a local install of the original (non portable) version an report if this works?

I didn't ... ;-)

There was a similar report for the Beta2 version: https://portableapps.com/node/15338

The problem seems to be the installation path. Originally I had OO3 installed on a network share (as I have all other PortableApps including OO2.4) where the path was: \\syyyyyyyyyyyy\userhome$\Uxxxxxxxx\Tools\Portableapps\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable

I now did a new installation to C:\temp\OpenOfficePortable and everythings looks fine.

So I removed the original installation from the shares and manually copied the local installation to my standard PortableApps folder on the network server ... and now everything works fine!

So there really seems to be a problem with the installer when it comes to long or strange path names. As this works with OO2.4 and all other PortableApps, it would be great if this could be fixed.

Thanks a lot for your work!

It seems so ...

... I've enabled the mozilla plugin under Options-Internet and the I've opened a sxw in FF Portable. It works (diplayed in the browser), right click and 'edit' opens OpenOffice.org Portable in Full mode.

But I don't check if any traces will be leaved on the host PC ...

PR2 Works Great For Me

I installed the English PR2 and it works great for me. It seems slower than PR1 but works.

I also installed the Imagepack just fine (even though the installed is in German so I had to go by feel).

Thanks loads guys! I really excited for this to be officially available for the platform.

ThreatFire Complaint with PR2

When I was installing Open Office Portable 3.0 PR2 on my thumbdrive while my computer was offline (for monthly maintainance) when ThreatFire was screaming at me that the installer has keyloggers in it. It was annoying me so much that I just to ThreatFire to shut up about it (through the "remember this decision") so it would get installed.

I'm hoping that ThreatFire is just catching a false positive, but I wanted the devs to be aware of this issue so they can address it.

...

Had to google ThreatFire since I never heard of it, but it looks like it just detects threats based on what the program in question does--something that will create a huge number of false positives (lots of stuff can be considered malicious depending on the circumstances it happens under--for example, Norton 360 warns me if I try to change the IE homepage, since it thinks /IE/ is modifying IE's homepage without permission!).

To put things in perspective: Going by behavioral monitoring alone, most installers would be considered malicious!

So yeah, I'd ignore the warnings.

Most Installers are OK

Most of the installers I've used (including ones from Portable Apps) usually doesn't trigger ThreatFire's Real-time scanning & when it does trigger something, it's usually something stupid & simple (like a screen saver installer changing my screen saver preference to itself).

Keylogging usually doesn't pop-up as a warning when ThreatFire fires off an alert, so it's something that brings into question of the developers. Since the majority of the users here try to be as legitimate as possible with their portable apps, I passed it off as a false positive.

The main reason why I have ThreatFire installed is to supplement my anti-virus to catch questionable things that my anti-virus program may miss. Other, less experience, users might panic at a warning & possibly overreact as well.

More than satisfied

I installed pre-release 2 (english) in the simplest way possible. I downloaded and ran the file "OpenOffice_Portable_3.0_en-US_PR_2.paf.exe" and chose the same dir as my previous oo 2.4.1. Done. Everything works perfectly fine!

PR2 = Final Release?

I know that good things take time but when will a final release of OOo3 Portable be available? It sounds like the Pre-release 2 works (I even tested it on my Windows VM I run on my Mac and it has so little installed that I had to installed java to test the install).

... its PR2 with some minor changes like entries in the helpfile and a working update of existing 2.x installs instead side by side install Wink

It is ready, only the install packages have to be signed and published by John.

open office 3.0 and msvcrt

Hi i tried to make portable
open office 3.0.18 novell edition
it took msvcm90.dll , msvcp90.dll , msvcr90.dll and
Microsoft.VC90.CRT.manifest and pasted them in the program directory
without this files there was error message
saying that application configuration is incorrect .
thats why i put above files .
but after that there is another message :
title : soffice.bin - Application Error
message: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002)...

the same thing happens to open office 3.0 standard edition
so what is wrong? what must be done to start openoffice 3.0 as portable app (what is necessary to make msvcrt portable ?) thanks , best regards

There is no support ...

... for making other portable versions of OpenOffice.org than the official ones of http://OpenOffice.org or clones of it portable.

It is not so trivial as it seems to make OpenOffice.org 3 and the needed msvcrt portable, thats why its not recomended. Please wait for the final version or use the pre-release.

If You will do it by Yourself, You are free to try it for Your personal use.

But don't give it to others without removing the PortableApps.com OpenOffice.org Portable Launchers and don't call it OpenOffice.org Portable!

ok!! it is only for my personal use

ok!! it is only for my use
and for no one else

I even do not use portable apps
I try to start open office directly from program directory.
With open office 2.4 it was enough for me. It was staring and working relatively fine - but not perfect (with portable apps it is better).
but 3.0 is different
obviously msvcrt is the problem.
It will be good if i knew how to make msvcrt portable.
ONLY FOR MY PERSONAL USE!!! Or you do not want to tell
this way to every one? Is this some kind of secret ?
I see that pre release of OO 3.0 did make msvcrt "portable"(say so). So it should not be a problem.

Thanks
Best regards

No secrets, cause its Open Source ...

... look into the package and the source files and You'll find all answers You need.

No support do not mean secrets (no informations), it means that You have to find it by Your self. So it is no problem, its a task Wink

Status?

Hi MarkoMLM

Just wondering if it's possible to get a status update on this please. Is there anything end-users can do to expediate the release or is it an internal testing issue or, as is very iunderstandable, is it simply there hasn't been the time available to work on this. Not a whinge about waiting just a check on the progress. Thanks for all your work : )
