Color definition?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I didn't see it anywhere...

What do the different colors mean when doing a preview of a sync?

I'm trying to sync a bunch of folders from a desktop to a portable drive and when I click Preview (after setting source and destination), stuff either shows up as black, red, green or blue.

What's the difference?

This is version 2.0.1 if it matters. Thanks!

Sure

if you go to the user manual, which can be found on the tab furtherst to the right, there should be a list in there, probably under Sync.

Hope that helps, any more questions just ask Smile

toucan manual

I also cannot find the manual. There is a help in the settings tab but that leads to the application website which refers you to the manual! Can somebody please help me find it. Or a fix if somehow it hasn't installed.

I

i believe what you are looking at when you say application website is the manual itself. The address should be something like -

X:\PortableApps\Toucan\help.html

Just to be sure let me reiterate how you access it.

Open up Toucan.
Click on the settings tab (furthest right tab)
Click help.

Enjoy : )

Oh and Welcome to PortableApps.com Smile

manual

yes this is what i am doing. This site refers to the manual viz

"Using Toucan

To start up Toucan, use the Portable Apps Menu or just double-click Toucan.exe file where you installed Toucan on your portable drive. You will see that there are five tabs along the top of the program, these are Sync, Backup, Secure, Portable Variables and Other. For more detailed information about each of these tabs, please see the included manual."

(The tabs in my version are not as described by the way. I have script and settings instead of other.)

What I need in a manual is something that explains the jargon eg one thing I want to do is to mirror my hard disk but I want to know exactly what mirror means in Toucan and why I would use it. I hope it means copy the hard drive so that i can recreate my pc if it fails, on another another PC. The web "manual" does not provide this.

Look down this page at what I wrote before you made this comment.

No, It Doesn't

Clicking help loads up Toucan/Help.html which is Toucan's help file. The section stating "For help using Toucan please see:" links to additional Toucan help files contained within Toucan which explain the colors.

Do

you think we could put the rest of the manual up online, this issue does seem to come up a bit.

ReOrg

I'd actually suggest we reorganize the help.html file to make it more clear that it's not just links to online. I don't think we need to put the whole manual online, though.

Perhaps

move the local links above the online ones?

Checked

I just checked the help file and there is some extraneous stuff that's contributing, I think, by pushing everything below the fold. The bullet points of features are unnecessary, none of our help files have features. So, "This version features:" and all the bullets can be pulled.

Then have the first H2 be "Toucan Manual" and have the 7 bullets for the manual. Then have "Toucan-Specific Issues" with the usual "Install, etc" bullets as well as the forum link.

Yep

I shall clean that up for the next release, thanks.
