Suggestion: Validated Extensions for Firefox Portable

I was thinking that it might be helpful if PA.com had a list of validated firefox extensions that have been checked and verified to work with the portable version.

If not on the main site itself then how about a Stickied forum topic like the FAQs thread.

I'll start Smile

Validated Extensions for Firefox Portable:

ColorZilla - 2.0 (Updated June 15, 2008) = https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/271

Opposite

It would make far more sense to do the opposite as nearly all Firefox extensions work just fine with the portable version. The only exception is extensions tied to other installed software (in which case they're more connectors than extensions anyway) and extensions that store things in oddball ways (any locations stored in the usual location like prefs.js, even if they use a full path with a drive letter, are portablized as the drive letters change).

Helping!

Ok, I start immediately with:

DownloadHelper needs a fixed path to save the videos instead of using the profile folder. So it isn't truly portable.

Sure

Did you check with the latest Firefox release with the current launcher (we're talking 3.0 since the 2.x launcher is no longer updated with new features)?

Uh...

I forgot that the new launcher updates the folder paths Blum

I also remember this simply from the addons settings panel (and I don't longer use it actually), so I though it might not be portable (without a few mods, that I forgot the launcher does).

Anyway, I will test it when I have some time (next week is going to be tests week in my school).

oh ok I didn't know that most

oh ok I didn't know that most of them work because of the extensions listed in the applications section...there should be a note on each of those extensions saying that most extensions work but this "place name here" extension had to be modified to work with the FFportable. That way it will solve any confusion in the future.

Anyway, thank you for the information about the compatibilities.

Not modified

They're not modified. They're just solid extensions that provide the functionality people most often ask about in standalone portable apps. Organizer, FTP, RSS reader.

I see...well I still think

I see...well I still think that there should be some kind of notice on the download page for Firefox that most extensions will work.

thanks for the reply and info.
