Portable Geoshell

Application: GeoShell
Category: Utilities
Description: GeoShell is an alternate desktop environment for windows PC's. This is the latest version, v. 4.11.10 beta. It runs under Win9x,2000,Me,XP,Vista. (I think NT as well).

Download GeoShell Portable 4.11.10 Development Test 1 [2.28MB download / 6.27MB installed]
(MD5: 57565df86ee82f407e913e9bf12ed276)

Release Notes:

Development Test 1 (2008-11-24): Initial release/removed incorrect copyright listing

This is my first try at a portable application. If anyone would like to try it and see if it works on other Windows versions (esp. under limited accounts) that would be great. I would imagine there are somethings I overlooked, so just tell me if I missed something/doesn't work/missing files.

P.S. This file is finally being hosted at a proper sourceforge site

Problem

How do you turn it off? Also you need to remove John's name from the Executable as he most likely didn't sign it.

self.path = path if self.path == None else self.path

I don't think you can turn it

I don't think you can turn it off. You just log off and then log back on. The program then shuts itself off. Oh and to the author of this program... YOU ROCK. I just overode the system, proxy server and everything with your program at my school. I hacked into the hard drive and did a ton of wacky stuff. THANK YOU. Don't fix nothing except make a "turn off" button. THANK YOU. oh and did i mention THANK YOU. You should make people pay for this. THANK YOU. YOU ROCK. THANK YOU!

Uhh...

Are you using the right program dude? I KNOW that's not the original intention for this program.

EDIT: Geoshell is written by Joel "JayKul" Bennett and others...

That is the problem

That is the problem with creating a powerful program, you don't always know what folks will do with it, outside of your intentions.

That is one reason we don't do things like keyloggers here, we know what SOME people will do with them.

But, there is NO WAY he

But, there is NO WAY he actually outsmarted a real proxy server with a desktop environment. That would be like taking the tires off your car with an aluminum can. It just couldn't happen...

Keyloggers

Since when is a keylogger NOT inherently malicious? Smile

Use by your employer on THEIR machine

Use by your employer on THEIR machine might be considered to not be malicious.
Use by your parents on THEIR machine might be considered to not be malicious.

But in both cases it would suck Sad

Yeah... I thought so

That aside, is it working for you? Are you under a limited (non-admin) account? have you tried to change any settings like add/remove bars, add plugins, change skins, etc.?

I am under a limited account.

It won't change the shells or the explorer.

self.path = path if self.path == None else self.path

Well...

It shouldn't change the shell under a limited account. You see, to change what shell is loaded on system start-up you have to change some registry keys. But those keys are only modifiable under full admin privileges. Even then, you HAVE to either restart or logoff/logon for the changes to reflect. Plus, if you close explorer through the task manager and then open up an explorer window (like My Computer or something), windows will start explorer (the shell). That could also be fixed via a registry key, but you would need admin status as well.

Good news is that geoshell is quite at home running over explorer. You can even shrink the explorer taskbar down to the bottom of the screen if it gets in your way.
