Global Inbox Reversal

I installed 1 account with global inbox enabled (didn't know any better), plus several correctly without it selected.

The account has been in use for some time, and I'd really like to reverse the configuration to use a separate inbox.

I tried to create a new account to get a folder where I could at least copy the files, but it tells me there is a duplicate account already setup. Even if I was able to create an account & copy the files and be able to use them, how do I get rid of the global inbox stuff??

This is much more complex than just copying files...........

when i understand right u

when i understand right u have serveral accounts and one of them dont use its own inbox, but global one and u want to change this right so it uses its own inbox too and not global....

if thats your plan u dont need to make a new account:

in the left frame where all accounts right click the one u want to change and then go to the account settings like this pic i googled
http://www.acc.umu.se/images/screenshots/help/mail/thunderbird-accounts-...

there u choose "copies and folders" and change the global one to the "own inbox"

should work like this

Assuming that when an account

Assuming that when an account is setup for global mailbox that it also has an entry as a 'regular' account, that would work.........

BUT, the account that's using the global mailbox doesn't appear to have a regular account part, so there's no place to select to not use global mailbox.

I have 2 accounts set as normal accounts, and 1 using global, but that doesn't have any options, as the only access for parameters doen't have the options that a regular account has...............

I tried to make a new account, but it tells me that there's a duplicate account, so it won't do it.

I can get some screen shots if this forum allows me to upload them.....or paste them into the response.

How About ...

How about going to "Advanced Account Settings", and selecting "Inbox for this server's account"?

The path: Tools > Account Settings... > Server Settings (of the account in question) > Advanced... (button in the right panel).

P.S. This was meant as a direct reply to the "Assuming that when an account" post.

Well, I went to get screen

Well, I went to get screen shots, and if you remember, when I tried to create an account for the 'missing' account, it said that it didn't succeed because a duplicate account existed...........

Well, the account indeed was created correctly, AFAICT, and I was able to select the correct check box, and it appears to work.

I moved the email data from the local file global inbox, and it appears to be operational.......very strange.

Thanks for the patience, but there definitely was something wrong initially. I still think it had something to do with an upgrade to thunderbird sometime in the timeframe where I moved to the portable version....I know I had incorrectly setup the global inbox option before the switch to portable apps, but I don't honestly know if the primary account was done correctly, as I didn't have a need for more that 1 account at the time, so I didn't even know what to look for.

I guess all's well that ends well........
