GIMP: Updating to 2.6.3

Hi,

I need some clarification. When I update GIMP to 2.6.3 do I also need to update the GIMP Portable Photoshop Layout add-on and the GIMP Portable Background Window add-on?

Thanks for your help,

Al ............ Smile

No

If you did, the announcement and pages would say so.

GIMP Portable Photoshop Layout add-on with 2.6.3 bug

So I had GIMP Portable 2.6.2 installed and it worked fine.
Then I installed the latest 2.6.3 release, which worked.

And in noticing the GIMP Portable Photoshop Layout add-on mentioned on the page, I then installed that.

When I try to run GIMP Portable 2.6.3 with GIMP Portable Photoshop Layout add-on, I now get this error message and the program crashes:

Title: GIMP Portable | PortableApps.com
"Some files (xmlparse.dll, xmltok.dll) were found on this PC that are incompatible with GIMP Portable. Would you like to temporarily disable these files while GIMP Portable is running?"

If I click Yes, GIMP loads fine

If I click No, GIMP displays this message: "Without disabling these files, GIMP Portable may fail to work correctly. Would you like to continue using GIMP Portable anyway?"

If I click Yes, GIMP seems to load ok

If I click No, GIMP closes

Unrelated

That error is completely unrelated to the Photoshop Layout plugin or the upgrade. It's coincidental.

That means you have something on your PC that is incorrectly installing xmlparse.dll and xmltok.dll to your Windows system directory (none should as there are multiple incompatible versions of these files so they should be in the app's directory). A few old buggy programs do this (I think some buggy versions of Yahoo IM and ICQ). Very, very few PCs will have these files locally. And you can usually delete them to figure out the cause.

Hey John,

You were right; once I disabled those old files in the system32 folder, GIMP Portable loaded perfectly!

Thanks for the quick solution
Best regards,

Gabriel
